Good afternoon.

I have received 2 letters, from a company called "Robinson Way" who appear to be claiming a debt of £279 upon me.

The thing is, I have never taken out any loans, nor entered into any credit agreement, or anything like that. Ever.

According to the letters this Robinson Way Ltd are managing an account on behalf of an HPH Ltd (Ex Style), where or how this 'debt' has come into existence I have no idea though.

The letters have these details inside a box:

Due to: HPH Ltd (Ex Style)

Our Reference: *********

Account Number: ****************

Amount Due: £279.20

I'm baffled, but also rather worried. And annoyed.

Who are these people?

:suspicious:

I ought to add, having no dealings with this sort of thing before, I am not familiar with legal terms / acronyms / etc.

Thanks in anticipation.

1 debt... 2 letters, one Notice of Assignment as such and the other being a general threatogram...

Honestly... Robbers way are part of Hoist and not really what i would call dangerous in the sense.

Could be just phishing letters... Choice is yours with what you want to do .

I would send a CCA Request to see if they can collect it. Could be interesting what they come back with

If it is not your debt then they will be in trouble for giving out the details to the wrong person. You could write to them denying any debt to any party and demand proof of the debt. I bet they have the wrong middle name, DOB or the like and have just sent out the letter to an address that is a close match to what they have.

Thanks for your replies.

The thing is, as I stated above I have never had any loan/finance/credit stuff.

So how could they have my details and where are they creating or finding this debt from?

I've never encountered anything like this before and I'm really worried by it.

Thanks

Hi you would be wise to check your credit reference files to see it shows there the detail may help ID the alleged creditor.

The CCA request is a very good idea do asap.

If you are absolutely sure that you have no such debt come back here I can draft a letter for you to try to sort this out.

Please don't worry about this it can be resolved quite quickly, also if RW or Hoist phone refuse to answer security questions and tell them you will deal with this matter in writing only.

Thanks, I don't think they have my phone number, I haven't called them yet as i thought it wise to seek advice first.

Afterthought:

although thinking back there was one strange phone call around 4 months ago.

My mobile rang, from a withheld number,

a lady asked to speak to me in the form "Mr. *****".

At the time it seemed odd so I quickly replied "Excuse me, who is this, you're calling from a withheld number and I don't know who you are".

She replied along the lines of "I can't give that information for security reasons" and

I answered "Well in that case I have to hang up then".

Nobody called back, so I never did find out who that was.

:suspicious:

Probably un-related though.

Sounds just about right with held number security questions etc., typical DCA tactics.

Would you like a letter to see if we can end this now?

^thanks again

Oh nearly forgot - how do I go about checking my credit reference files without charge?

Also - I don't suppose anybody has any idea who or what (Ex Style) is, as maybe that would be a clue to who is claiming a debt?

I'm on Noddle.

It was quite invasive asking for previous addresses.

Now it's asking for card details?

Hi Loanly

They ask for your card details purely for verification purposes...there is no charge on Noddle - it is free.

Your "prove it" letter (where you know nothing of the debt) is in the CAG library here

Argh!

Sorry, we haven’t been able to verify and validate your identity and can’t provide your credit report.

We’re sorry but unfortunately we’re not able to provide you with access to your credit report as we’ve not been able to automatically verify and validate your identity. As your credit report contains such personal and important financial information we need to make sure that we only make it available to the right person.

We're unable to tell you the exact reason that we couldn’t verify your identity but some of the most common reasons are a recent house move or name change, not being on the Electoral Roll or that the credit card details provided couldn’t be verified, this could be due to the card being relatively new.

We regularly make updates to our processes and we hope that this will allow more people to be automatically matched so please do come back and try again.

If you’ve any questions, or would like further information, please email us at register@noddle.co.uk.
