Eurocracts sparked fury last night by ordering the UK to double dole payments.

The council of Europe claims the handouts given to Britain's jobless are manifestly inadequate. Now me thinks, that's going to put the cat amongst the pigeons regarding any current austerity plans..

Which will take years, I can't see HM Gov doubling benefit rates anytime soon to avoid action can you?

Hmm, now I wonder why they are moaning about our benefits when there are so many Economic migrants coming over from those countries in the EU ?? Do they have higher benefits - if so, it might be worth some Brits considering moving to Spain / France / Germany

The current JSA is more like £71.70 per week so they got their figures wrong saying it is £67 pw.

How can we trust the contents of the rest of the article is correct?

It is the Mail, so don't trust any figures they quote. As for "cutting the welfare bill that Labour ran up" doesn't really stand up - Yes, welfare spending increased under Labour, but it has seen a steady increase from the earliest days. If we look at the numbers published by http://www.ukpublicspending.co.uk, we see that welfare spending has actually gone up under the current government - Not that surprising, as in any recession, welfare spending always increases and drops again as the economy improves.

Found this graph that shows welfare spend as a proportion of GDP since 1985:

John major and the Tories are equally to blame for welfare spending increasing before Blair and 1997 general election.

Who knows the EU law / directive that says the unemployed has to receive social security benefits while signing on?

Any EU law saying we must receive JSA / ESA undermines the legitimacy of the UK benefit sanction laws / regulations.

EU states can not pass legislation that conflicts with EU law. 100% these sanctions are illegal because they take away the food from your table for several weeks and not everyone will get hardship payment.
