Hi, I'm seeking some advice on obtaining a Fit Note from the GP.

I called the local surgery today, and I asked the receptionist how do I obtain said note? She mentioned that they no longer hand these out over the counter, and I need to get my employer to write to my GP (I told her I'm self-employed, but will cease due to my condition).

Is this normal? I need to start a claim for ESA but am stuck as I cannot get a fit note.

You need to make an appointment with your gp and describe that you can no longer work and the reasons why.

If the gp agrees they will give you a 'fit note' for the Dwp confirming your not fit for work.

Hope that helps
