Pop you are still missing the point.

It was allowing me to go on the road with a dangerous vehicle.

Or does this just not compute with you.

HE COULD HAVE KILLED ME AND ANYONE ELSE I WOULD HAVE HAD THE MISFORTUNE TO HAVE HIT!

A YOUNG FAMILY PERHAPS WITH THREE YOUNG CHILDREN. COMPRENDI.

THIS IS WHAT HAD SHOCKED THE GARAGE.

Still hyping on about the price.

HE PUT ME ON THE ROAD WITH A WEAPON AND NO WARNING!

Well no he put you in a banger with MOT advisories which you had read which were issued 6 months previous

and in your previous deleted posts you declared you expected to fix.

Well citizens advice and the reputable garage here and the trading standards, who are now also involved seem to think differently. No point in continueing with this conversation. I have the info I need. So you feel that it is okay to send people out in death traps without warning. So that is another dealer to steer clear of.

Yes, the fact remains, you cannot buy a decent 8 -9 year old car for £800. It cannot be done, not by me, you or anyone else.

What car and mileage was it?

I did.......

2007 Ibiza 1.9 TDI with 80k on the clock,

rough as a**holes suspension [typical for the model I think] but its done 20k in the last year without a hiccup which is more than I can say for the poxy

sc430 on my drive with a dead gearbox or the 911 that needs coaxing into life every time it leaves the garage.

Must admit though at 45p/mile in allowance and ave 65mpg its been worth its weight this year.

Thank you Mike Hawk.

The problem is that some posters have a vested interest in the alternative position, I don't believe I'd be inclined to take any 'advice' from a trader who supports the sale of substandard equipment.

Hi Ims21, In order for this thread to make sense I have reinstated the original post.

Well at least that proves that I did not ask for compensation but reimbursement.

However, I do not feel that I want it known where I am or anything else personal about me or the other parties.

Not happy about that.

IMS....... to be fair, If I were the trader I'm fairly sure I'd be able to identify Viv from the info in the first post

Why have an edit facility if it can be compromised. makes no sense to me?

Used motor vehicles - consumer rights

When you buy a used motor vehicle from a trader, you enter into a legally binding contract and you are entitled to expect that it is of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. An older vehicle with high mileage may not be as good as a newer vehicle with low mileage, but it should still be fit for use on the road and in a condition that reflects its age and price.

Traders cannot take away consumers' rights by using terms such as 'sold as seen' or 'no refunds'. If you buy a used vehicle from a trader online, you may have additional rights under the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000. You do not have the same legal rights if you buy a vehicle from a private seller or an auction.

If the used vehicle is faulty, you have a short time after buying it to reject it. You may have other remedies such as repair or replacement. If the vehicle is faulty then you need to write to trader you bought it from. You should confirm the details of your complaint and the remedy you are seeking and keep copies of all correspondence. As a last resort, you may need to consider taking court action. Remember, used vehicles may have some faults, but they should not be excessive. Fair wear and tear is not considered to be a fault.

The edit facility for members automatically drops out after 24 hours.

However, in this case the removal by the OP of the original post made the whole thread a nonsense. The only way to make sense of this episode is to have the original post in tact which was the reason for reinstating it.

I have however removed the name of the garage as it is not relevant to the substance of the thread.

People on here give of their time for free in order to try and help people. It is unfair on those who give their time freely to try and help for a poster to ask for help and advice, receive input and then to remove the very questions they wanted help with.

As I have said, the thread is already stored in various web archives so removal of the thread would not make any difference.

This is why people are advised at the outset that this is an open forum and that the whole world can see what is posted and that they should exercise caution with what they post. We do not have any control over web archives and the like.

The simple rule is that of you don't want the world (potentially) to see what you post then don't post it.

I have drawn up an invoice for payment from you which includes expenses such as the £20 fuel, £30 tracking, £55 inspection fee from the garage I took it to. Then there is the £877 that I paid for the actual vehicle (£77 of that is veh tax). This brings the total to £982.

I have underlined the amounts that are compensation for you indigo.

Hmmm. Help. I do a lot of that.

Lot of charity work and volunteering.

But i am sad to say didn't really see much of that here.

I am surprised that the moderators didn't advise the jackals to back off a bit?

Until Mike actually started to reply I felt attacked.

Felt I was being a scapegoat for others frustration with the motor industry.

Many people are in a better situation than me with regards to money.

But I like to help others rather than a large shiny car.

But to hear those that openly ragged me.

Nah. Not nice.

Damages Popeye.......... its a necessity for setting out your position should it ever require the courts intervention

Believe me Mike, I want to see crooked traders out the game as much as everyone else. But I can also see it from both sides.

The OP here bought a car aware the advisories it required. She even had somebody inspect the car on her behalf prior to purchase.

She then had an inspection carried out which included dismantling of steering components. The problems found are by and large just an increased wear on those previously outlined advisories. Now, in law as soon as another garage has actually dismantled parts the selling garage can wash their hands of it. I'm not saying that is ethically right or wrong, it is simply what the law says. After all an MOT tester cannot remove any parts during a test.

At some point we are all responsible for our actions. I think yes probably OP has bought a bad 'un. But in the eyes of the law I don't think the trader is being unfair in saying you bought an £800 banger, now live with it.

If members wish to have threads removed then they should apply to admin giving their reasons.

Threads are only normally removed if there are legal reasons for doing so.

Yes we can close threads which may be done for various reasons but we are not in the habit of removing threads.

I can see no personal data in the original post but am happy to be corrected if I have missed something but it doesn't alter the fact that the web archives cannot be edited and will remain available for those who find it on a web search for example.
