Hi I am wondering if someone could advise me how to work out a suitable figure from Citibank regarding an old credit Egg card started in 2003. This is not PPI. This involves Egg and Citibank incorrectly reporting on credit file for years an incorrect number of Egg Accounts. I only ever had one and they reported 3x all commencing in 2003. This incorrect information was not removed until 2012. They have asked me to provide a figure.

Thank you

Do you know if you have suffered financially by this incorrect information being reported on your files.. eg, unable to obtain credit at respectable interest rates, been denied credit or mortgage ?

Yes it affected me in every possible way. My job was affected in a big way due to the fact I was denied a company credit card and so unable to complete my role. I spent countless wasted hours on telephone/emails trying to resolve. The worry and stress of it all affected my health.

Interest very high on credit card. I never missed a payment. Egg card via citibank sold to Barclays late 2011. Credit card paid off in full Feb 2013.

Here you go :)

You must firstly try to quantify a figure yourself.

Entitlement to compensation not just for the financial suffered from being charged higher rates than you'd expect to pay, and for the emotional trauma too. Ideally he should see a solicitor to do this but you certainly don't have to because you have a statutory right to compensation.. Respond to them state that you have suffered damage amounting to approximately £x because they have incorrectly recorded information on your credit report. State that you understand that you are entitled to compensation under the Data Protection Act 1998 and ask them for a reply within 28 days.

Depending on what they say, decide whether a solicitor is preferred, or write to the Information Commissioner for advice.

  • 4 weeks later...

Citibank have offered me top end of what they say FOS would offer which is £250. They are not accepting my request for higher unless I have documentary evidence of the issues this caused with my employment. This must show that they were caused soley by the information showing on my credit file by Egg and no other company. Also they say my statement regarding my being declined for a company credit card has been questioned as the card against the company so my file would not be checked. This last part company credit card my file was checked and yes it didn't show against my file due to nature of the role. Any suggestions? I haven't replied as yet.

Have you had a look at previous decisions made by the Ombudsman - they have loads of examples of how they have arrived at their decisions and what was awarded, on their website.

Would your employer provide a letter advising that you were refused the card because of those specific reports by citibank/Egg ?

If you had other adverse reporting on your file at the time, they will not budge I fear !

Although I would imagine having 3 adverse reports from one company would make things look far worse than they would have been.

I'll have a look at Ombudsman decisions thanx CititzenB -v quick response!! I no longer work for (2x companies), I'm now in different line of work. Work was very specialised and not likely to obtain a letter as such. No other adverse data on my report and so thinking of sending to Citibank.

I've not replied as yet. The majority of my problem re employment was since 2011 during which time the account was with Barclaycard. Barclaycard offered just under £800 goodwill Aug 2012 & removed of 2x late markers which should never have been on my account in 2012. These were not late -I'd been advised by Barclaycard to withhold payment whilst they reset my account which had been transferred from Citibank (Egg), so that only one rather than two direct debits and only one rather than two accounts showing live on my credit file. All not actioned until mid 2012!! My employment was affected by these two late markers. They (Barclaycard) have acknowledged this. Barclaycard also gave me £100 gesture good will late 2013 for late marker showing 2008. This marker should never have been, again withheld payment until additional account removed. It never was until 2013. My job again affected by this last year since Barclaycard did a credit search before removing late 2008 marker and my score dropped, also they brought forward all my account payment history so that looked as though account only just cleared rather than a year before. They, Barclaycard will not provide further gesture goodwill/compo and so with FOS.

Do you think Citicard should be linked to the above in some format. Barclaycard not willing to give more than £100 for late marker 2008 as account not with them at this stage. Barclaycard took over account Nov/Dec 2011. (Account paid off beg 2013). Thanks for all assistance

Hi I requested a SAR from Barclaycard - recorded delivery on 12/12/14 to Barclaycard data protection team Dept LRC Barclaycard Northampton NN4 7SG. I was then informed over telephone that this had SAR been posted to me on 16 Dec 2013. Then a month later not sent. Executive team chasing up. Received a letter today from Barclays rather than Barclaycard with my £10 p/order returned and requesting my resending my SAR request with a signature to Privacy and Data Protection Radbroke Hall Knutsford Cheshire WA16 9EU. I have no idea why I should be receiving a letter from Barclays since all my letters to date are from Barclaycard. Also would prefer not to enclose my signature since my case above is still live and so much is being highlighted for instance now find through Executive Office ppi is showing on my credit card paperwork despite my credit card account clearly showing I'D Ticked as not required. Executive office has now put through a PPI reclamation. Can anyone advise why I would need to resend SAR request and with signature?
