Hi All,

I have a related question,

this time last year my partner and I moved into a flat that was supplied by Npower, and

the supply was controlled using prepayment meter.

My understanding was that these meters controlled exactly how much money was charged

and also to prevent people from building up any kind of debt.

That said we weren't happy with Npower and switched approximately 3 months into our rental period.

I have recieved a letter today from a third party debt collection agency, claiming that we owe £134 of unpaid bills.

I plan to fight this but need some concrete information regarding prepayment meter policy.

I don't believe for one second that we owe this money and am somewhat pleading for some information.

Thank you

When you moved in did you just carry on with the meter or get it reset and put in your names?

It could be two issues both of which you need to investigate

1) Was there an outstanding debt on the meter as they are often used to collect debts when the person can not repay it all at once

2) Did you sign up for a minimum time say 12 months

You need to ask them exactly what the debt is for.

Any opinion I give is from personal experience .

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

I suppose the other question is..did you buy any credit from anywhere than an authorised dealer. I know in the old days of cards there were some rogue retailers and even with the keys there were supposedly people going door to door "selling" credit that did not make it to your account

Any opinion I give is from personal experience .
