I got a letter from Lowell's this morning,

contacting me about a debt I have no clue about.

They've not included an amount owed and the company I'm supposed to have an account with is one I'd never heard of before today (Shop Direct),

when I did a bit of googling to find out what was going on.

I'm certain I've never taken out an account with these guys.

The googling also turned up the forums here and the good advice posters gave.

I'm not sure what to do here: what do people advise?

Cheers in advance,

Hi and welcome to CAG

I would ignore the letter. It is likely you are on the Leeds Losers 'phishing list' This list has the name and address of lots of people with the same name as you and they contact all of them in the hope they get the right one.

If they continue to harass you, you can raise a complaint with them as they should be sure of who they are contacting before writing.

Can you check your credit file to ensure there is no adverse data on it that they may think is related to this debt and you.

If you are asked to deal with any matter via private message, PLEASE report it.

Everything I say is opinion only. If you are unsure on any comment made, you should see a qualified solicitor

You could send the prove it letter if you don't want to ignore it but you should also add to it stating that all communication MUST be by letter (not phone, text or emails) just to be safe from harassing calls.

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...
