Hello

I would be extremely grateful for any help or advice for this problem below.

The person in question cannot open a basic bank account. He has tried every bank and building society on the high st, in a possible radius and online. He has even tried the Barclays Cash Card and the Co-op Cash Minder. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/basic-bank-accounts

Both Barclays and Co-op have said that as long as you have the required proof of address and ID, you'll be able to get a basic bank account. Went there, tried, no look at all.

Still he cannot get a basic bank account to have his wages paid into. I would like to ask members is there anything else that can be done?

Thanks for your time.

Dan

Hello Dan

You can be refused a basic bank account if a credit reference check shows that you have previous bad debts of more than £500, or an outstanding court judgment against you. Any CCJ's etc? If you've a history of criminal convictions for fraud you may be turned down.

Another possibilty is a credit union.

I think the credit union idea is a good one BUT

Not every credit union offer the service. the best way to find out is to see here:-

The very Basic Accounts Don't Carry Credit Checks. What Was Reason For Refusal?

Some of these accounts will still require a credit check to be carried out, and if you have a criminal conviction for fraud or are an undischarged bankrupt, you're very likely to be turned away.

If they got knocked back for a coop account, then there must be more to the story than we are being told.

Hello

Thanks to everyone that replied.

When i was SC60 self employed in my younger days, if i had any problems i use to go and see an employee at my local Inland Revenue office. The problem was sorted.

Would it be ok for the person in question to do this?

Thanks

Can't see how an employee at the Inland Revenue could help.
