Morning all technical bods.

For ages now my MSE has detected and quarantined this gem

SoftwareBundler:Win32/OneClickDownloader

MSE gives me the location of it but for the life of me, I cannot find it

Anyone have an idea??

Have you tried www,malwarebytes.org? I've found it helpful in the past.

Hi

Should really have said that I have tried these so far

Malwarebytes

Spybot Search and Destroy

Combofix

CCleaner

Nothing has worked so far

This adware was downloaded with a Beta version of a hidden object game and that game has been removed.

I am using Win7 pro and in 'Computer'. I cannot find anything to allow me to see hidden files

Thanks for the response Seminole

Hi Silverfox,

If you have the MENU options active then select 'Tools' - 'Folder options' - 'View' and then ensure that the 'Show hidden files' is ticked, if not tick it and 'Apply'. This should then allow you to see all system and hidden files..

If you have no menu options active try activating using the ALT key - then follow the above

Good luck

run combofix in safe mode with networking.

delete all saved system restore points first.

Download superantispyware. Before scanning choose options for full scan and deeply infected system. Also you can down load winpatrol which should help stop,it running and help pinpoint its location.

Update.

I tried every option mentioned and nothing worked.

I should have mentioned that the adware was on my back-up drive (G), not on my 'C' drive.

In the end and after checking what was on the drive, I erased everything, formatted the drive, then did a fresh back up. All fixed even though it was probably a little extreme.

But a perennial problem.

I find malwarebytes to be one of the best for getting rid of PUP's, as is suggested in this thread, but do run it in safe mode for some of the difficult ones, which doesn't appear to be suggested.

PUP = Potentially Unwanted Program (includes virii, spyware, spamware etc)

I express my honestly held opinions - they are nothing more or less than that.

... Its just doing some due diligence that makes them seem unusual ...

Please don't assume what you see here is what I wrote - At least some of my posts HAVE been edited without my knowledge or agreement - or anything showing people they have been amended
