I took my PPI claim to the FOS back in April and had a letter from them asking for clarification on some points that I had to respond to by 30th June. I assumed that a decision would then come not long after but it is Sept now and still nothing. On their recorded phone message it does say claims can take 12-18 months so should I just forget about this for now? I am in some serious debt and really need the claim to hopefully get my life back on track.

About 12-18 months from when they have all the information (yours and the businesses).

Sometimes the case will be seen to quicker (around the six month mark) and sometimes it will over-run the 18 month mark.

Warning: Freemen of the Land Operate here. Think twice before accepting 'legal advice'.

  • 2 weeks later...

I got an initial decision from the FOS 7 months after making my complaint with them and then appealed the decision. After 4 months without hearing anything, I emailed in last week to ask about the status of my case, only to be told that my appeal email hadn't been logged onto their system (whatever that means) and so the appeal process would have to start now (and I had lost 4 months). So while it does seem to take between 12 and 18 months (I'm now atthe 12 month mark) it is worth chasing them to make sure that they haven't stalled and/or that they don't need anything else. Although as you'll see from the notes on this site (or my case, which is outlined here ), there is no transparency or accountabilitywith the FOS so don't hold your breath for a favourable decision.

can take 12+ if goes to the actual ombudsman, if you cannot wait, do not bother in the 1st place, it is all a waiting game as we have all found out, then a useless responce in the end as the statement could of been made in the 1st couple of months, even a judge gave up on them!

  • 1 year later...

what happens when you get to the two year mark? last time I rand them, they said 18 to 24 months on the automated message, so can you complain or anything after two years? I've emailed them today to ask exactly what stage the case is at.

one other question, where you backdate bank charges and so forth by 6 years, is that 6 years from the case resolved or 6 years from the case logged with the ombudsman?
