I bought a Rover 45 on 27th April from a garage, since then its been back 5 times

the AC is broken so I have no blowers, the rear electric window is not working, and its just been in

for a believed water leak, have been to collect it tonight and have been told that no leaks can be found

although I need to refill with approx. 3 pints of water each time I use it.

It appears it could be the head gasket or something to do with the pistons, and have been advised its a very expensive job, what rights do I have please?

Iam due to see the Manager on Tuesday can I ask for a exchange car? or my money back

need to know what my options are

it might be a twenty year design, but that is not the issue, the car has a 1.6 engine on a 54 plate

51 thousand on the clock one owner, with service history.

You at least expect it to last longer than a week without a problem

Im not into cars but Ive heard about these rovers, theyre always leaking water and they need the head gasket doing regular, you need to call a few garages and tell them youve got a rover, they will know what to do! if it was me,I would be looking to exchange/dump that!

The k series engine is known for its head gasket issues, there are specialists our there who repair these properly for about 500.00,

There is an upgraded gasket and lower oil rail .

A garage in Eastbourne do a 5 year guarantee on the repair but for over 1k

Try the rover.org forum.

However if you just bought from a dealer it's his problem.

They still make the engine in china

The 45 is a decent car but the engine is know for HGF (especially the 1.6 and 1.8 versions as the original design was never meant to be bigger than 1.4l - nowhere near as prone to HGF - and BMW applied some very silly cost cutting) however this can be repaired with components that stop or at least greatly reduce the chance of HGF in the future.

I suggest you visit www.mg-rover.org for advice as there are a lot of specialists on there who know the cars backwards and give very sensible advice on both problems with the cars (many mechanics just say HGF with a Rover), who is good for doing specialist work and what costs should be.
