It's not ok to drive no. You would be committing a criminal offence by driving without insurance.

Call the company, tell them you can no longer afford the insurance and are selling the car so would need the policy cancelled with immediate effect.

Once that's done, take the car off the road immediately and do not drive it.

You will be committing an offence as others have said.

You MUST also declare the vehicle STORED OFF ROAD (SORN) to the DVLA, cancel the Road Tax and reclaim any remaining balance from the DVLA if the car is taxed and SORN it must be insured.

Any Letters I Draft are N0T approved by CAG and no personal liability is accepted.

Hi

I would not drive the car without insurance

They have not cancelled insurance they just send letter saying they will try to recollect in 7days... surely they would have to inform me if they cancelled it.

I will do the SORN business as soon as they cancel my insurance was my thinking

I would contact and ask them. However, regardless whether you pay it or not, you will still owe either a cancellation fee or the rest of the years insurance. If you call them they might postpone your insurance until you can afford to to start paying again. If you just stop and not tell them then you in no doubt incur some fee's of one kind or another.

If it's paid monthly then it's likely to be a finance plan based on your quote. This will mean use it or not, they will still want you to pay the year or a fee to cancel. (You agreed this with them when you took the policy out).

The insurance would be cancelled back to the day it was supposed to renew. The DVLA will be aware of when the insurance finished and the SORN taken out so act quickly. Also remember that a car that has been SORNed will command a much lower price than normal.

You can check if your vehicle is insured, by looking at www.askmid.com

If it 'ain't there - don't drive!

But remember, if it's there, and you drive - and it's removed whilst you are out, you can't drive back!

I've always understood that it's updated every midnight, but I've never seen that statement written down.
