they sound like peddlers of imitation gold in some dodgy bazaar on the outskirts of Istanbul...

 

In which case they will no doubt wait until the dying seconds before realising that you ain't a dumb american tourist, and you aren't going to be mugged nor entertain negotiations no matter how wildly they gesticulate..

 

this is when haggling can be quite fun.. watching the other party's desperate attempts to cajole you whilst you stand there with your arms folded and a look of complete disinterest upon your face.

Got the offer of £692, rang up today spoke to some fella called Jules, we agreed a payment of £850.

received lengthy letter dated 24th May 2006 offering £605 pah!

letter before action sent registered 5th June 2006

letter received in response to lba offering £1801.00 errrrr no ta

court action filed 23rd June 2006

deemed served to bank on25th June 2006

notice of acknowledgement of service has been filed

they intend to defend

7th july received letter PAYING IN FULL!!!

 

10th July cash deposit £112.58

10th July cash deposit £2869.00

Its not about rich! I wish it was.

 

I need to be out of my place in a month, couldn't risk it going to court/time delays so settled quickly

Well done on recieving your offer, it might be just short of what you are claiming but worth it for you if you have a hectic month ahead and cant afford the time for court etc. I would have done the same thing!
