I had a letter offering a 75% discount from Lowell the week before last, it was a debt which I knew was Statute Barred, but I hadn't told Lowell about this.

Anyway I had a call from them last week and stupidly I answered it and all of the security questions (I know STUPID).

I told them over the phone that the debt was SB and that the only reason that they were offering a 75% discount was because they knew as well as I did that it was unenforceable, they reply was that some people felt that they had a moral duty to pay back these debts, I replied that I wasn't one of those people.

Anyway I expected a phantom payment to turn up after my silly behaviour and fast forward to today a letter arrived, but to my surprise it says Account Closed with Lowell.

It didn't even cost me a Recorded Delivery Letter.

Well Done Lowell for Once!

QB

Thanks for sharing this. Looks as though Lowells are now realising that statute barred debts are no longer worth pursuing.

I find it quite amusing they are now going to push the "moral card" though !

Keep that letter somewhere safe.

To add to this,I also received the same offer and I too got caught out answering the phone as they called from what appeared to be a mobile number rather than the more recognisable one I regularly ignored.

I went through security to be asked what I was going to do about my debt......Nothing I replied.

Q Oh...why is that then

A You do know how old this is don't you

Q Yes we realise that its an old account.

A you will realise that its statute barred then.

Q Yes we know we cannot take legal action. Is that the only reason you are not paying.

A Yes.

To which the final reply was, That's fine, thanks for your time, Goodbye.

I also received the same letter today

Very pleasant woman who spoke to me. I was impressed with her conduct.

More impressed with my letter today though.

Of course I will pay you everything you say I owe with no proof.

Oooh Look....Flying Pigs

A full discussion about fractional reserve banking would be interesting in this sort of situation. I'd love to see them squirm at that, though I doubt they'd ever have heard of it.

DO NOT PAY UPFRONT FEES TO COLD CALLERS PROMISING TO WRITE OFF YOUR DEBTS

DO NOT PAY UPFRONT FEES FOR COSTLY TELEPHONE CONSULTATIONS WITH SO CALLED "EXPERTS" THEY INVARIABLY ARE NOTHING OF THE SORT

BEWARE OF QUICK FIX DEBT SOLUTIONS, IF IT LOOKS LIKE IT IS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT INVARIABLY IS

I think I might frame it x

Well done! You wouldn't be the first person to frame a letter from lowell, I framed one from them when they had to send ME some money (court costs), I also framed the letter from the court.
