It's amazing isn't it? I've sent countless letters in my time here on planet Earth using Royal Mail and they've never lost one.

Now I find after a 'phone call to Customer Relations in Leeds that the DPA letter hasn't arrived which is the same fate that happened to the Prelim letter.

(We already had the last 18 months of statements so sent the prelim letter concerning those).

So that's two letters to the same place inside two weeks.

Luckily I sent a copy of the prelim letter to the branch which I assume got through as we got replies and we're suing them.

The Royal Mail Recorded delivery of the prelim letter to Leeds also was a waste of money as they can't tell me where the letter is, so pointless to use that method.

The track and trace bit only works if they actually deliver it, if they don't then they have no idea where it is!

I would suggest that people use the Special delivery or send the request by FAX or even email.

If you still have an account then the money will be taken from there, our 'problem' is that the Halifax account was closed in November 2004, so we had to source the money using a cheque.

The guy (Ray) at Cust Relations in Leeds said that if I just request the charges that have been levied to the account over the 6 years by email then they send the details out in the post for free.

email address is [email protected] which I think has been noted before.
