Yesterday I was in my local M & S store and I bought groceries and to my shame I was going to steal 2 items of underwear but I decided against it and put them down on my way out. I was obviously being watched doing this as I got into my car a woman came and stood in front of my car and typed my registration number into her phone. I was dismayed by this and as I drove out of the car park this woman and the security guard were talking and looking at me from the front of the store. What I am terrified of is being contacted by the police as I have to admit I have previously walked out of the same store not having paid for my groceries and I am guessing this will have been caught on camera. Also the car I was driving is my daughters and I would be horrified if she was contacted over this.

I think youre worrying over nothing. If they suspected you of shoplifting they would have tried to stop you before. Theyre probably just suspicious and are keeping an eye on you.

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

If my advice helps you, click the star icon at the bottom of my post and feel free to say thanks

I agree except for the reasoning behind her taking down my license plate number, also she wasn't in a uniform so I thought she might have been a plain clothes police officer.

Store detective I suspect, they may well buy the DVLA details and send a warning letter to the address confirmed, often this states the individual is banned from the store.

You could approach the manager of the store and apologise for your conduct and explain about the number plate.

Any Letters I Draft are N0T approved by CAG and no personal liability is accepted.

Hello there.

I think you may be OK this time, but obviously you need to be very careful in future about paying for your goods when you shop. You don't say how many times you've done this.

Just to say that we don't condone theft at CAG.

Almost certainly an intimidatory move to let you know that they knew what you were doing and now have your details should you try it again. Don't be tempted!

Any advice given is done so on the assumption that recipients will also take professional advice where appropriate.
