Payslips not returned from DWP

Hi

 

I on ESA and work 2 hours per week from home which I've done for a few years.

 

Every year I have to send in 5 payslips as they check you don't earn over the £20 threshold, which I don't.

 

However, there have been a couple of problems with DWP returning the payslips;

 

Once they sent them to a disability organisation I never had any involvement with but, as the employers name were on them, the organisation sent the payslips to them. My manager then came home to me with the payslips, he was angry as they contained personal information and couldn't understand why they were sent to the organisation in the first place.

 

The second time,2012, they were not returned and to date they have still not been returned.

 

 

I now have to send in a letter about annual pay increase as well as the payslip with my new wage on.

 

Are the DWP allowed to keep any original letters and payslips?

They probably have some clause in their terms & conditions, but I too would expect the documents to be returned promptly. I'd suggest writing a strongly worded letter to senior management expressing your concerns about the cavalier attitude to client confidentiality and data security (cc your MP as well). I'd also suggest saying that any future submissions will be photocopies rather than the original documents in light of their tardiness in responding to previous requests.

The DWP should not keep documents such as payslips - proper procedure is to make a copy for their files if needed and return the originals promptly. They should be returned to you, not to your employer.

Manager came home to you? Are you living with your manager?

They shouldn't keep them, but you may have to keep on at them to return them at times. My LA kept my accounts for nearly a year, even though I asked on the phone twice to have them back. I only got them back in the end by literally asking for them when I was there one day for another matter.

After my hospital appointment tomorrow I will write a letter to the senior manager and my MP.

In the past they sent them by recorded delivery so it's strange they haven't done so since.

Jadeybag...no I don't live with my manager, I work from home for my landlord, so when he comes out to the estate we have meetings.

 

I don't have any problems with my council, they copy my papers there and then and I leave with the originals. It's just the DWP whose office is far away and I post everything by recorded delivery.

That's why my manager was furious with DWP. He received a call from the organisation who'd received them and both parties wondered what the h3ll was going on.

In the past I just went to the dss and they copied the papers and that's that. Now I have to post them.

can you not get someone else to take them into JC for them to copy, that way they never hold on to originals? might save you recorded delivery costs

Would be nice if they did that!

I asked my local JCP+ and told me they don't deal with that and gave me a slip of paper with the address where to send them.

If you call through to your ESA processing centre, they will give you a fax number you can use to send documents. If you don't have a fax machine, you can go to your local JCP, and ask to use their fax machine for the same purpose.

 

My processing centre is in Belfast, and as I live in London, there's no way I'd ever get there in person. It should be the same address that you send the documents to.

 

If the ESA call centre are clueless, just be firm and ask for a call back from your processing centre. Good Luck!
