Atos tried to argue that they were not bound by the Equality Act when delivering WCAs, and so did not need to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people

 

er, why? You can't just choose not to follow the act.

This is just another example of the pig-headedness of Atossers....they really believe their own hype, power gone to head with the dwp backing them against claimants.

I can see the work programme providers trying to use the 'not bound by the equality act' ploy when dealing with ESA referrals, most of their offices are rented space usually on the upper floors of buildings, the one I went to was definitely wheelchair unfriendly.

 

It's utterly ridiculous that organisations that are required to interview/assess people with significant physical problems can get out of making adjustments. In the case of ATOS my best guess is that it's another wheeze to bang someone off benefits for non attendance.

When I was on the WP as a JSA claimant, they claimed to help disabled people back into work. Yeah right. They weren't too happy when I declined their offer of helping me get back into when I was put on ESA.
