british gas debt passed to advantis

Hello.

Today i recieved a letter from "advantis" looking for my whereabouts.as british gas had passed debt of £370 to them.

 

i phoned and spoke to an agent at advantis.i explained to him that i would contact british gas

and pay the debt to them directly,set up standing order etc.british gas told me they could not recall the debt,as not in their policies.this debt was from a previous address,not where we live now.

 

so basically i owe the debt to advantis.things are tough at the moment with being out of work,though got 2 interviews next week.

 

guy at advantis said they would continue pursuing the debt unless they heard from britsih gas.

guy at british gas said i didnt owe them anything now,as debt has gone to advantis.

 

any advice please ?

i think it was from about 2009,2010 ? ill have to look through old letters from british gas.

 

or ill ring them up again and find out for sure.

i have had no letters,bills from british gas in past 12 months.they passed debt to advantis september 2011.i was with british gas from december 2007 to october 2010.at the old address.

 

in that time spell was when the debt was run up.

 

then today i recieved the letter from advantis asking to contact them.

 

guy at advantis said they will carry on trying to collect this debt of £379

 

i know ill recive the if you dont pay this blah blah court action etc etc.

 

so when other letters come what should i do ?

 

ps - they didnt bill us in last 12 months.as we have been with another supplier in this time.which is all paid and up to date.

For future reference, dont phone them, EVER and if you get a we are looking for Mr X letter just bin it and wait for one that does actually state you are the person they are after and they have proof of that..

no.british gas didnt have our new address.advantis got the address from wherever,im not sure.after leaving the property in october 2010,

 

we moved back to same address 6 months later.during this time we was with edf.we ran debt up while there from december 2007 to october 2010.

 

i used to pay on a payment card.but we couldnt keep up with payments,thats how the £379 debt came about.

 

then september 2011 they passed it onto advantis.who thought i was still at the old address.

 

then letter arrives today.

I think you need to sar bg

 

get all the info

 

then workout what you MIGHT owe.

 

seems like thet have used the dca as a tracing agent as you had 'gone away'

 

they have looked at your cra file

 

and found you.

 

certainly DONOT

 

pay the DCA

 

you need the correct info that you owe this amount.

 

when it goes over to a payment card

things can get muddled.

 

they still have to send you bills mnid you!

when i spoke to a guy at british gas today.he said we didnt owe them anything now.as they have passed it to advantis.i asked if he could recall the debt back to them,and id pay them.but he said they could not.told me to contact advantis and sort out with them a payment plan.bills were tough to pay as was out of work

im on my credit report page now.what do i have to look for ? on this debt it still says "british gas trading" not "advantis"

 

2 people i spoke too yesterday at british gas said i didnt owe them anything now,as theyve passed it to advantis,and for me to pay them.

 

i said so if i pay them £1 a month ?,guy said yes do that.

I would be asking BG for a brackdown of the debt

 

and then pay them via your internet banking portal

i dont know why they took so long to default me.i spoke to 2 people at british gas yesterday.

 

told them id willingly pay them back the debt,to british gas,with a repayment plan,standing order etc.

 

and i would NOT pay advantis anything.

 

they said id have to contact advantis and sort out a repayment plan with them.

 

both people at british gas told me i didnt owe them anything anymore.

 

i owe it too advantis now.

i think reason for british gas taking so long to default me is

 

the debt was on my wifes "debt relief order" as was in both our names

 

then they have chased me for it.

 

so any letters i get from advantis,saying you must pay this,or this will happen blah blah

 

i should just ignore it ? and have no contact with them be it.phone.letter,email ?

hi again.i telephoned british gas today.and i asked if they could give a me a full breakdown of the account i had with them.

 

she said they cannot do this,as is past 24 months since i had been with them.

 

and they had nothing on their database of any of my bills from between december 2007 and october 2010.

 

seems to me that since they passed it to advantis.they have washed their hands of it.
