    • Sorry I feel that I am not engaging very closely on this particular thread. You ask a question about whether you should mention the insurance and I didn't respond. I suppose it's too late now because you have sent your initial letter off – but it doesn't physically matter either way. If you have mentioned it then well and good and if you haven't mentioned it then that's fine we will see what they have to say and include it in your letter of claim. Apologies for not being more closely involved.
    • Well I think it's important to speak to the press. I'm quite amazed that your MP has done nothing about it. I think if you talk to the press and raised the issue of the lack of interest by your MP, this would also spur the MP. The press would go to the MP for comment and this might be enough to trigger it off. As you are in Cumbria – are you in any region which is protected or some area of special beauty? If you are going to have a call with your solicitor then I think the main question is that as liability has been established, why aren't you all discussing the extent of the damage and the value of the damage – and if they have gone silent on you then why haven't you simply sent them a letter of claim and begun proceedings. That is the way to move them forward. The substantial delay and toleration of their lack of communication, I'm afraid is very much in tune with the kind of service that we expect from solicitors. You should be aware that you are losing control of this and you need now to be assertive and quick firing and if you rely on your solicitor then you need to make it clear to your solicitor that this is the service you want and you're not interested in going down the usual channels of correspondence and hanging around for replies. The solicitor works for you. You don't work for the solicitor. All too often people seem to hold these professionals in a kind of reverent awe and it's up to you to adopt a different mindset. Your solicitor won't like being pushed around in this way but that's because they are used to having control and they are not used to clients pushing them around. I really don't understand why you don't want to speak to the press. In my book it's a no-brainer. It's completely free – there is nothing to lose. The only thing that crosses my mind is that maybe you don't want publicity on your proposed development. I still don't quite understand how much money you think you might be talking about here

Someone please help! :)

I'm running into some major issues with my extended warranty from comet. I purchased a mac from comet before it went bust... i took out an extended warranty with them and i swear they said if i got it fixed via their warranty it would be carried out by Apple or an Apple approved servicer. I had it fixed via the warranty but it wasnt with an apple approved service, this has now voided the manufactures warranty. I have a recurring graphics problem and apple said if i went in again they would replace my whole machine as they cant pin point the problem. (ive had a new graphics card an logic board and everything) so i feel that no matter what they replace my whole machine is just buggered!!!

Ive checked all the ins and outs of the warranty and i get where apple is coming from.... but is there any way i can prove the warranty i took out with comet specified it would be fixed by an approved apple service? now they've gone bust i cant get a hold of any warranty information or anything?

I might be wrong as they might have used the same warranty company before and after their demise but am i right in thinking they have passed over this warranty to another company? and if they've passed it over to a company that have different terms and conditions should i have been informed? and do i have a right to claim the warranty company is at fault and get them to replace my faulty product?

Its all a right fandango... If comet hadnt of gone bust this would be so simple.... now its all confusing! I'm thankful for any help i can get! thanks!

The warranty is useless. SOGA covers you for the same thing. THe warranty you bought is in addition to SOGA and exists purely as profit for the retailer.

But should i have been made aware somewhere that the warranty would breach the manufactures warranty?

or could i find someone liable if i can prove the warranty i took out and paid for covered me and this new one doesnt?

It shouldnt breach the manufacturers warranty. ALmost every authorised mac seller sends the system back to apple. Thats why the turnaround time is 4-6 weeks.
