That was a shocking indictment of the Benefit to work Project.

I like the way ATOS are distancing themselves from any blame !

The Atos assessment as proven by this documentary isnt a back to work exercise it is just designed to save money

I still don't understand why non of the disability groups have challenged this in court

This is where I disagree. It doesn't save the taxpayer any money. If anything it moves money from legitimate social spending to the pockets of the private contractors.

I thought it was funny, when an MP asked David Cameron whether he had heard that King Richard the third, just dug up from a Coventry car park, had been declared fit for work by ATOS. The government do appear to understand that there are problems with ATOS, but I am not sure they know how to change the current processes. As IDS has said in recent days, it is about trying to get as many people back to work asap, while leaving only those that definitely cannot work on relevant benefits. The problem is that JCP staff are too few to manage the back to work process and there are not enough suitable jobs. So the savings made will be minimal or none, after the increased costs have been deducted.

Surely the point is that the stated aim is not to get people back to work rather its to remove people from the higher benefit

Scenario

Joe fails has his incapacity removed

as for savings the dwp makes no savings at all

sent to sign on JSA

jobcentre wont sign him on as they judge him unfit and unemployable

Joe has no passport benefits ammases housing debts has his home taken from him

Apeals and wins however that takes upto 13 months at present

-----------------------

Sheffield council use Atos to screen people applying for their vacancies

Atos assesed this chap as unfit Despit having Assesed him the month before for the DWP and failed him as fit for work

What's worse in this video, is the fact that you can tell that the Instructor isn't feeling good at having to give the answers to the questions she gets from those in the room. She sounds apologetic every time she admits another terrible fact. No wonder she calls the job toxic and the fact that they can salve their consciences by knowing that they never go to the Appeals therefore the claimant never gets to see you again, means they can forget all about the decisions they make.

I know they all say we don't make the decisions, the Decision Maker does, but it's very rare that anyone is going to challenge that especially when they are working to targets.
