Debt-line.net

Not to be confused with the FREE service national debt line.

You got to admit its clever isn’t it?

That’s like calling yourselves citizen’s advice bureau dotnet and charging people.

Anyway, apart from offering a paid debt service these leeches also provided the usual threat merchant who work for some large utilitycompanies.

My sister in law had a few problems with her gas/electric andhad being dealing directly with the utility company to arrange token meters.

Out of the blue who should ride over the hill threatening toobtain a warrant to break the down with the police on hand and cut her off butdebt-line.

She is obviously very upset and although no date has beengiven for changing the meters the good fellows at debt-line seem to indicatethat in the next 14 days her meters will be ripped out and left with nothing.

If anyone does turn up at your sister-in-law's property to fit a shiny new pre-payment meter then she will need to see the following...

The Original Court Order

The signature of the Judge - NOT A PHOTOCOPY signature but a real one made with ink.

Without the above they have no authority to enter your sister-in-law's property.

Also. make sure she takes full meter readings before any meter removal, also contact and arrange a repayment schedule with the original utility Company.

Stigman

NEVER telephone a DCA

If a DCA rings you, refuse to go through the security questions & hang up!

If I have helped you, click on the star & say thank you

Thanks for that but how does she deal with the external debt company that seem to think they can obtain a court warrant. I can't find a letter a template letter that says back off DCA she is dealing with original creditor (utilty company) not the DCA. Thanks

Which utility supplier is it ?

It is usually the utility supplier will apply for a warrant and not a DCA and if it's a valid warrant you wont be able to stop them fitting a pre-paymeter.

If they do fit pre-paymeter under warrant the customer will be paying for court coast and fitting of the meter on top of the original debt.

Please use the quote system, So everyone will know what your referring too, thank you ...

hi unmoderate

Utility companies often outsource their debt collection work, including disconnections / prepayment meter fitting.

They apply for the warrant on behalf of the utility company under the Rights of Entry (Gas and Electricity Boards) Act 1954. this allows them to enter the area where the meter is and disconnect or fit a prepayment meter, using locksmiths if necessary.

I would advise your sister in law to contact the utility company directly and complain
