Citizen Advice Bureaux has released the following : -

What is theBenefit Cap

From April 2013, and later in some areas, there will be a limit on the amount of benefit you

can get if you're of working age. This is called the Benefit Cap. Some people will get less benefit

than before, although at first, this will only affect you if you're getting Housing Benefit.

Later, it could also affect you if you are getting Universal Credit. Some people won't be affected by

the cap at all, for example, if you qualify for Working Tax Credit or you're on some disability

benefits.

It's important to know if you'll be affected, so that you can plan ahead. If the cap affects you, your Housing

Benefit will go down from April 2013.

I am nowhere near that published cap.

The only people that even seem to get close to the cap is those with large amounts of children.

Or in London or in another high rent area - remember part of the purpose of the cap is social cleansing.

Hi

Which of the disability benefits that you can get will exempt you from this cap?

It does say in the article above.. but here you go..

The cap will not apply to you if you qualify for Working Tax Credit or if you or a member of your household gets any of the following benefits:

  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Personal Independence Payment (from April 2013)
  • the support component of Employment and Support Allowance
  • Industrial Injuries Benefits
  • War Widow's or War Widower's Pension
  • Armed Forces Compensation Scheme payments.

Anyone know how this benefit cap will affect me?

I live alone and i'm in my 40's, with no kids.

Thanks.

osdset my grandfather was in the Jarrow march....history repeating itself. yes that news report I saw on msn phillip Hammond wants more cuts to welfare to boost troops. the police in our area want their cut of council tax to be raised. yes indeed more pain, bring on the fight back. wonders if mp's expenses have been cut dramatically? and if they are now house-sharinginstead of buying the extra home needed if they live too far from London to commute for duties. just a thought, don't shoot me for it. I have a simple logic.

Hmmm,...i'm sure they'll have other things 'up their sleeves' for people in my position.

But thanks.

As you may know, there's a cap on how much HB you can receive. This was before the benefit cap was brought in.

Oh yes, that's right.

Just thought they'd be making changes to it again, come April.
