Hi all

we are currently working overseas and are renting our home out (please don't think we are greedy BTL landlords . . . we don't really have a choice in this economic climate and we love our home). The letting agent had arranged for new tenants to move in, however despite passing the old tenant on inspection, the new tenants were not happy with the place and have said they will not sign the lease until we meet their demands. Some of these are spurious (they have decided they want us to replace some of the furniture which they were happy with when they first applied). Do we legally have to meet their demands or have they in effect rejected the contract?

BTW - the agents are being terrible!

many thanks in advance

THey dont get to demand. It's your property. They accept it as it is ( as long as it meets H+S requirements and is habitable), or they find somewhere else to live.

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

If my advice helps you, click the star icon at the bottom of my post and feel free to say thanks

If they have not yet signed a contract then everything is still up for negotiation. People are entitled to change their mind up to the point when pen is on a legally binding tenancy contract or till they've moved in.
