Why is it the above companies cannot give you a discount but if you cancel and restart a new policy from them they then give you the 10/20/30% discount even going as far as giving you 2 months free insurance ?

Has been like this for years with many companies. Blame internet comparison sites, where people can see how companies compare on price. When I started in Insurance, the renewal retention rates for Car Insurance were over 80% and now it is apparently about 55% on average. People are encouraged to change their Insurance every year and Insurers are subsidising new customer premiums at the expense of existing customers.

We could do with some help from you.

I renewed my Tesco car insurance in November ant it was cheaper than the previous year. It was my first renewal with Tesco. When I rang to query, they said that they no longer price match, haggle etc but offer their best renewal price first time which to be honest is quite ad. mirable. Their standard wording is one of the better ones in the market so I renewed. Although there were one or two cheaper ones out their, the covers were pretty basic.

The "get 2 months free" advertising is simply a gimmick but people are still taken in by it. Look for free instalments or cheaper deals with the same cover.

Ironically, Tesco, Direct Line and Churchill all use the same insurer - UK Insurance !!

:p :p If my advice as been of help, please give me a quick click on the scales to your right ;) ;) :)

So are privlige and green flag. The two month free gimmick works this way. you pay 2 months deposit up front. You then pay 10 instalments=12 instalments. As you dont pay for the last 2 they are free.

I was with Churchill for a number of years, till this week when they cancelled my account, with little or no documentation. What they are saying they sent I didnt receive - didnt even get a bounced direct debit letter from my bank saying the payment didnt happen. Really quite angry with the fact I can be a great customer with no claims for so long and they just cut me off without letting me know.

They are well known for it. Including not sending any sort of warning letter out either.
