Hi everyone,

Someone has done a bet for in my name without my permission.

It happened few months ago,Barclays has informed me that they will not refund my £500 bet because I have broken card use act by someone using my card number.

I have had the case reviewed by the fsa, they say that they favour the bank, but will review case again if i can gain more evidence.

The ip add that was used was different location to my address,my card has been with me in my wallet at all times

I have wrote my card details in my dairy that i keep in my bedroom, but in my diary it doesn't say what them numbers are.

I don't write my pin number in my dairy,so i havn't broke debit card use terms.

Also if the bet had been won the bet could have been withdrawn by different means by emailing different details.

I keep my card number safe because when you phone the bank that's the 1st details they ask for.

I have informed police, but they say the bank has to investigate it.

I canceled my card, got new one.

Also the locacation that bet was made i did leave my username and password on remember me.

I don't know how they got card number ?

I don't share that with anyone.

I hope someone can help.

Just had phone call off ladbrokes saying that the bank will need to refund you.

I was stupid leaving my username and password on remember me ,but if I can prove that I didn't break the terms and connditions of debit card use I should get my money back.

After talking to loads of people,

they informed that banks have start to blame the.customer for letting their detais fall to someone else.

Please help

I have started to accuse my family.

What can i do ?

Please can you let us have more details.

When did it happen. How does it all work.

You say that you complained to the FSA - not the FOS???

What correspondence has passed between any parties about this.

The fos are the same as the fsa

Someone put my card number in then put bet on.

The bank are saying i have broken the card terms and conditions by leaving my details around.

I havn't broken the cardvterms because I havn't give my details to anyone.

Please help

Done on Oct,betting slip proved it wasn't me.

Breaking card terms his the problem, when I havn't broke the card terms.

A friend told me that this his most bank tricks not to pay up.

Any ideas how can get my refund ?

Yes I can,but I need to pay £10.

After speaking to the Fos,they say that the investgation shows that it wasn't me,but someone had my card details,so I have to pay the bet back.

Also they argree that the bet winnings could have been withdrawn by other payment methods, but they favour the bank because I let my card details be used so the bank will not pay.

I havn't given my card details to anyone. I havn't left my card details in public area. I have only put my card details in a diary that doesn't say in the diary my account details, only those numbers I know.

The ladbrokes says that fraud hacking was not possible,so only mistake I made was I did leave my u sername and password on remember me

in my friends location, but I still don't know where the fraud took place ?

I have accused my friend, but he has never been in my bedroom so I don't know how he would get the card details.

Any ideas how can get barclays to give my money back ?

1. The funds cannot be withdrawn to another Card. With Ladbrokes, if you have deposited with a debit/credit card, then the winnings are sent back to that card.

2. The issue that you have wrote the details down in a diary are irrelevant. You have kept, by your own admission, the computer set to remember me. The website stores your details on their servers, as you know.

3. The IP address being somewhere else is A/ Irrelevant and V/ Confusing

A. because you can use a proxy server and appear to be anywhere in the world. I frequently have to log into my companies Intranet while in Florida and I have to use a UK VPN

B but the confusing thing is you say that the bet was placed on a computer that you have used in the past but also say that the IP places the bet in the wrong place. I dont understand how its on the right computer but in the wrong place.

IMO, what has happened is that you have, as you admit, left the computer on remember me. Someone has then logged into your account on your friends computer and deposited using the details already stored on the PC. They have then placed bets on your account.

What I would ask is this. When the deposit was made, was the correct CVC code used. I am not 100% sure whether Ladbrokes ask for the security code when making deposits. I say it like that because while they may ask you to enter it, there is another cost (20p) for it to be confirmed with the customers bank.

  • 1 month later...

Thanks for your advise.

I have asked for the betting slip, but I have advised that the investgation proves that the bet wasn't made at my partners address from all the investgation.

The bank are still saying I have broke the card use terms, but Ladbrokes didn't investgate hacking into my system.

Also I found strange that Barclays didn't refund the money the £500 1st before investgating it.

I think put the remember me on the account on my friends pc,but I'm not sure.

I don't know how someone got my card details.

Also the winnings go into my ladbrokes account not onto the card.

After investgating I noticed that there are ways to get a refund without my permission,

How can prove that I havn't given my card details away ?

If I prove that I will have my money refunded.

I don't know what to do,I have accused family members,I got the police involved, reported when I found out, canceled my card.

Please help

Yes I did do some online shopping that day.

I don't know how someone got my card details ?

One more thing even on remember me you would still sfter to enter the long payment card number to do the bet.

So how did someone get my card number ?

Even on the internet history it doesn't show the card details, their are blank.

Ladbrokes doesn't accept the bets with that payment number being entered.

In the 3 years of doing my job, I have NEVER encounted anyone who has been the victim of false bets TWICE and definitely not with the same company

http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?370602-Fraud-Dispute-with-Ladbrokes-Bet

You keep saying that the IP address proves it wasnt you. No IT person would say that as the IP can be masked to be absolutely anywhere.

I have asked for the betting slip, but I have advised that the investigation proves that the bet wasn't made at my partners address from all the investigation.

Now as far as I am aware, and I do about 50 of these investigations a year, the ONLY way to determine the address of an IP is to get a court order or the police involved to question the ISP of the person who has the claim. I as a company investigator cannot do this. They will say to the ISP can you tell me who was allocated IP address 81.25.255.36 on Saturday 1st March 2014 @ 17:42 and they will say it was allocated to Mr Bloggs. If they have come through a VPN, they will go to the VPN provider to ask for the opening IP. You have said the only people to have done any investigation is Ladbrokes and the FSA

You keep saying the betting slip proved it wasn't me but don't state how. If you are going solely on the fact of the IP address then your argument is seriously flawed.

In post #8 you say

Also they argree that the bet winnings could have been withdrawn by other payment methods, but they favour the bank because I let my card details be used so the bank will not pay.

Ladbrokes T&Cs state

You will be required to use the same card when making withdrawals from your Ladbrokes account.

You cannot withdraw by any other method except by going into a shop with the debit card and ID.

After investgating I noticed that there are ways to get a refund without my permission,

Can you please advise what these are?

In posts #3 and #8 you wrote that you had left your details on remember me then when I said that this was an important error, you have changed it to I might have done in post #11

Im sorry if I sound harsh but for someone to go to the trouble of placing a bet on your account for no personally advantage where they wouldnt be able to get the money is miniscule. Maybe someone has done it to pee you off in your circle of friends but from what you have told us, IMO and like I said, this is my job, you are to blame.

If I had been done by Ladbrokes as you claimed on the other thread 6 years ago, my account would have been long closed.

Hi

Just some question as you say you done some online shopping that day and its to do with your computer.

1. Do you have anti spyware installed if so.

2. When was the last time you ran a full scan of your computer.

3. Do you have Anti Virus Software installed if so.

4. When was the last time you ran a Anti Virus scan of your computer.

5. Do you have a Firewall installed.

Certain viruses can install a key logger which logs everything that you are typing into a computer for the hacker to get all that information this is why I ask the above.

Stu

I agree that there are plenty of Keyloggers out there.

However, if a hacker was to do such a thing, why would they waste their time on something that they cannot personally benefit from? They cannot get the money out of the account so why would they go to Ladbrokes (A site the OP has a claim going back 6 years that he "forgot" that he hadnt received £100) when they are much much more easier ways to defraud someone if you know their card details.

Whatever I post is my opinion and should be taken as such, an opinion. While it is what I believe and is offered in good faith, it should not be taken as a statement of truth
