Single people value financial stability over looks and personality, according to a new survey.

The research, conducted by MyVouchercodes.co.uk, found that "debt" and "poor financial planning" were among the top turn-offs for those choosing a potential partner, with debt featuring above unattractiveness and poor sense of humour. It would seem that single people are more likely to select a potential partner who might not float their boat physically than someone with debts. More than 1,900 single adults from around Britain responded to the poll, which found that the number one turn-off for single people looking for a new mate was poor hygiene.

"Bad personality" and debt came in second and third place as deal breakers. "Poor financial planning/bad with money" and "lack of physical attraction" were fourth and fifth on the list of turn-offs. “When looking for a potential partner, I suppose many people find it off-putting if the person has a string of debts or is bad with money,” said Mark Pearson, chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk. “You don’t want to set yourself up for a life of debt and always have to be the one to look out for the finances of the household. However, you shouldn’t judge too quickly; perhaps there are reasons someone is in debt and that’s not all that people are about.”
