I opened a bank account with Barclays on 21st December. Got a letter today (dated 5th Jan) saying it has been closed and I have until the 19th to cancel any DD's etc.

I know they reserve the right to do this but don't they have to give 30 days notice? I did call but they just said "sometimes when an account is open further checks are done".

Hi welcome to CAG,

Yes they can do this, to get a full explanation you will need to put the question in writting.

Also check you credit reference files it may give you a clue.

Hi Mork,

Are you aware of any adverse data that may show up on your CRA (credit reference agenciy) files. This could be a possible reason the bank decided to withdraw the facility.

If you haven't checked your CRA files recently, now would be a good time to do this to see if there are any surprises you're unaware of.

If there's nothing bad that you're aware of with your CRA files, there could be another angle. Take a look here too - http://www.cifas.org.uk/what_are_my_rights

It may also be worth checking your CIFAS file to see if anything nasty is lurking.

:-)

We could do with some help from you
