Hie. Just wanted to find out if i could ever re-apply for a bank account with Barclays after they closed my account in 2006 due to defaulted Barclaycard? I did not pay or akcnowledge the barclaycard so that default has just come off my credit file last month. My credit score has improved thanks to good management of my vanquis card and running a marisota account. I nolonger have any defaults on my account and never had any CCJs.

Would you want to bank with B/shark again, especially if the relationship had broken down ?

It might be in your interest to look at other bank accounts, perhaps one that hasnt yet been caught up in any scandal !!

In answer to your question, they claim not to keep any records for longer than 6 years - so if you really feel you must bank with that particular bank, then perhaps leave it a few months and give it a go.

Thanks citizen B for the response. I guess you are right. I am not in real need of an account with them. I just wanted to know if it is possible to apply to a bank that has closed an account before.

Hi Teezee,

Theoretically, you may be able to open an a/c with Barclays but I rather doubt it.

They suggest they only keep data for 6 years, we know that's rubbish and they'd be fully aware of your history with the BC a/c.

Although the BC debt is now Statute Barred, there's a chance they would even try raiding a Barclays a/c to recoup the debt using the right to Set Off.

Avoid problems and use a non-Barclays Group bank.

:-)

We could do with some help from you
