Government wins key vote on planned 1% cap on annual benefits rises

The government has won a crucial vote in Parliament on plans to limit annual increases in working-age benefits to 1% for the next three years.

 

MPs rejected a Labour bid to block the proposals by 328 votes to 262 after five hours of heated debate.

I also notice that the Housing Benefit is also subject to the 1% inflation cap. On average social housing rent increases around 5% per year, so I now presume that the tenant will now be responsible to cover the 4% deficit?

What they do not realise is that the increase in wages never exceeds that of inflation so in essence although you had an increase it did not cover the Cost of Living increase which normally goes up by about 5%. Although council tax went up by 5 or more percent at no time in my working life did my salary increase by the same amount!

In essence despite wage increases my spending power decreased!

I think we should. It seems morally wrong to me that MPs should vote to restrict other people but take even more themselves. They have too much control over their own working conditions.
