A friend has recently lost her Empyment support Allowance and is most distraught.It appears the assesment was rushed and bears little resembelence to her and her condition at all.Is this normal ?

Unfortunately it is quite normal for people to be denied ESA based on assessments which many feel are flawed. It's happened to many here on this forum. Did your friend have a medical at an ATOS assessment centre? If so, was it her first such assessment?

 

In any case, she has the right to appeal the decision within one month. Many people are successful at appeal.

How much information did the friend provide from third parties at either the assessment or with the ESA50?

 

ATOS and the DWP are well known for ignoring obvious problems or claimant statements, unless they are also supported by a GP/consultant/social worker etc.

 

As per the post above me I would appeal immediately, based on the claimants condition/s and lack of accuracy in the assessment. In the meantime I would also contact the third parties mentioned before, and get as much support in writing as possible. Send copies of these documents to the decision maker to help them make the right decision for your friend.
