sorry if this is a bit of a long story, but wanted to explain the full situation.

up untill july 2011 i was working full time,

had no money worries

was out of debt and had some savings etc,

then i was assaulted which resulted in me suffering with quite bad depression

and going on anti depressants which made me really wreckless, especially with money,

i was spending as if i was still earing what i was and more,

like i was trying to comfort myself with stuff if that makes sense.

i also lent my ex my credit card which he maxed out (£100) in a few weeks and hasnt paid me back for.

i ended up getting payday loans

when i couldnt get anymore of them i started getting bank charges and also defaultd on the loans.

i had 2 bank accounts both in the red

i opened another to use for my money to go in and direct debits to go out of,

as otherwise my money would have been going in to the overdrawn accounts leaving me with nothing.

i should add that my income is all benifits and i have 2 small children.

i left the accounts and the charges piled up,

this july i decided i had to sort it out as they were just getting worse,

i wrote to natwest explaining the situation,

asking for all the charges to be removed,

they were really good,

they replied saying its not their policy to remove charges,

but as a gesture of goodwil they were recrediting my account with the full amount (over £800)

and an extra £50 as an extra gesture

(its still overdrawn by £159 but the charges have been frozen

and i intend on sorting it out as soon as i can).

on my other account with santander i phoned them,

explained the situation and they said they were going to be refunding £550

which they said was all the charges from the period which i though was brilliant,

but the thing is ive since worked out that the charges for the year were £810 not £550,

so can i still reclaim the difference even though theyve already issued a refund?

the account is all clear now but the extra £260 could really come in helpful to start to clear some of my other debts.

Did you sign a "full and final" settlement letter?

If not then I would bring it to their attention that there are further charges which they have not refunded and see what they say.

no it was over the phone with santander, they said the £550 was the amount of charges that have been applied and i didnt question it at the time

I would bring it up with them and if necessary send them a schedule of charges.

If they are refunding then they should really refund you any interest that was applied as a result of the charges too.
