Can't seem to find an answer online so here goes.

I have been unemployed for over a year now and have been claiming JSA for the last year and a half. Last year I got a tax refund as I was working for the month of April.

Although I have not acutally paid any tax through work this year, do I still pay tax through JSA? If so, would I get a tax refund as I would have earned below the personal allowance for this year?

I am asking as I am signing off and just need to double check this to see if a tax refund is possible.

If there are spelling mistakes on my posts, I blame the gremlins tapping my keys.

You don't pay income tax through JSA, no. It does count as taxable income, but the DWP doesn't deduct tax at source since the amount you can receive annually on JSA is less than your tax-free allowance in most cases.

You should receive a P45 when you sign off which will help with tax calculations.
