Have just had a call from npower asking me for a meter reading over the phone, I told them that I would do it tomorrow as A) I dont know who she is and b) it is FREEZING outside so I wont be going outside until I have to.

I said to her that the meter reader was so rude the other day that I wont be letting anyone I dont know, read the meter anymore, she then told me that my meter HAs to be read by LAW, oh really? Can anyone confirm this?

ta very much:smile:

Meter reading

Energy suppliers have an obligation to use all reasonable endeavours to gain entry to read

customers meters at least once every two years, and inspect the meters in order to

But it is not actually the law that it "has" to be read? Dont get me wrong, I am not cheating or damaging the meter in any way, I just dislike letting people that I dont know into my garage.

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

They should have some form of identification. If you are concerned then I think you can make arrangements with the Supplier for the Reader to have a password that is known on to you and the company. Speak to them about it, you do have a right to be cautious but if they provide identification then you should be ok.

They could obtain a Warrant from magistrate court in extreme cases to force entry "lock smiths so on " to read meter if consumer repeatably refuses access to there meter and you could end up with huge legal bill !

If you got nothing to hide then ! arrange a meter reading and have a friend with you when they call to read there Meter....
