Cat problem

I have two cats 3 years old, brothers, had them from 6 weeks, both are neutered, have regular vets check ups and in great health but I have a problem with one of them so would like some suggestions. 3 times now in the last week he has done a wee in an inappropriate place, different place each time. But having said he has weeed it dosnt actually smell like wee in fact it has very little smell at all. They have a clean cat tray which is not near their food, access to the garden all day and have a good life, we live in the country, no main roads, field all around, and they both hunt and play all day, I do get them in when it is getting dark as I dont like them out at night.So any suggestions about the weeing? I have used a spray on the areas where he has been and he dosnt have any signs of a bladder infection, I feel he may be doing it to mark his teritory or out of sheer bloody mindedness TBH.I have never had this problem before and I have had cats all my life so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Got it feline urinary tracrt infection just looked up the symptoms and one of them is that it can be caused by stress and he does seem to worry if things are out of sync, and we had my son and 8 yr old grandaughter staying last weekend which although he didnt run away and hide may have caused him some upset he has also had a couple of squabbles with his brother this week. Having said that he seems to have stopped again nothing for the last few days so I will see how he is and if there is any reoccurance take him to the vet next week. He has no signs of pain on weeing (watched him in the tray and garden) no blood in urine and has plenty of fresh water (although he does like the outside water butt) and eating ok, no excessive grooming of the area either so it may have been psycological.

Dont like taking him to the vets too much as he gets stressed in the cat basket and even though its only 10 mins away usually manages to solil the basket, he does this when I take him to the catterey as well and that is on the farm next door, so I know he gets upset over things.

Yes it could be stress which is the trigger for him becoming symptomatic and I understand your dilemma over stressing him further with a vet trip only too well. What you may have had is a mild advance warning that he is prone to this sort of problem. Everything now should be geared to prevention. If you feed dried food then change to wet - that's the biggest difference you can make. No matter how much they seem to drink, cats fed a diet of dried food are always slightly dehydrated.

They have wet and dry food, must say though he does tend to eat a lot of dry some days in preference to the wet so I will watch this, going to get a plug in feliway air freshner to try and keep him calm as well, than ks for your response.

A few drops of Rescue Remedy in his drinking water will be a lot cheaper in the long run and I happen to believe it's a darn sight more effective.
