Well the aim was to 'save' money, so are they surprised.

He did not do it for our benefit (no pun intended)!

In one way, I'm surprised we won't receive transitional protection. I know people who receive(d) IB and going on to ESA have that.

transitional protection is there, but it isnt that great.

 

if someone with the protection has a gap in claim or change of circumstances they lose the protection. It also does nothing for new claimants. Finally the protection stops inflation increases, the amount is static until the new benefit catches up.

 

So eg. my ESA (assuming I have it long enough) will now not go up each year until the normal ESA rate catches up with it. Whilst IB rates go up still.
