I rented a house for exactly one year , all rent was paid on time and house was well looked after. Owner and estate agent came and checked house at end of agreement and said everything was great.. House was rented unfurnished, there were a few peices of very old furniture in the house which i said i would dispose of, these we not listed on inventory.

There was also a old rug that was listed on inventory as just "rug". I disposed of this as well and now owner says its was a antique persian rug.

What should i do?

I dont think there is anything that can be done if it is disposed of. If you have the inventory which just idenitifies it as a "rug" and they agreed to your disposing of the item along with other items, then I think there is little they can do either.

IMHO, I would be very suspicious of their claim that it had value at this point in time, why not say no.. dont dispose of it when you advised that is what you were going to do.

I think they did want to keep the rug but this was not made clear. I was not told it was listed and as it was very old and dirty i just got rid of it when i threw away old furniture.. Im happy for them to replace a rug with a rug but im not paying for a expensive persian rug..

If it was of any great value, it should be listed on their Insurance papers.. ask to see this as proof of any value if they decide to get funny !!

Hi

I have to agree with CitizenB if this was of value then why was it not properly recorded on the inventory.

Also if it was that exspensive then why did the Landlord even leave it in the property.

I would ask to see if it on the insurance with details of the persion rug and value.

IMO the Landlord may have issues disputing this as you have pointed out it only states RUG on the inventory nothing about persion rug.
