Withdrawing your data consent has no effect on your benefits. Data Protection Act 1998 and the DWP say so.

I don`t doubt what you & DWP say, but has anyone you know done this? what has been the outcome?. Is there any documents i can download & produce to them to back up this stance?. Also, if you are asked to sign [ any request for a signature from the DWP] . 1. Are you legally obliged too? 2. Can you defer until you have read & digested any paper or document given to you? . I have no problem proving i am looking for work , i just don`t think this scheme is fair or will make the experience easier or usable to many of the users.

Yes thousands have done this. I have done this too. Even DWP has to follow the law, Data Protection Law 1998.

Data Protection Act 1998 quote

A data subject has the right to withdraw consent to the processing of their

personal data at any time, and any request from an individual must be acted

upon.

Do the research, know your rights in the Law and you will be much happier

Just looking for advice, when I signed up for ujm I gived permission to dwp to access my account but could I change my mind and decline them? I am a honest jobseeker but I have givin some advice saying its not mandatory and I should't have to give my privacy rights out to unknown people, just wondering if this is possible?

Yes of course you can, write to them saying you are withdrawing your consent under the Data Protection Act 1998.

Simple as that. You wont be the first and you wont be the last people do all the time. Iv done it along with thousands of others.

The law is there to protect you. USE IT.

I wouldn't worry too much about sanctions coming from the Universal Jobmatch. DWP employees are usually computer illiterate, they don't even know how to turn the computer off (sorry Flumps!).

Harumph! I moved from the DWP to working on a computer helpdesk

Just my tuppenceworth. I am seeking work - not on any benefits at the moment (although I should be) and found the jobcentreplus page had changed to this. I put in a search (didn't register with the thing) for a Personal Assistant's job (glorified secretary)...and it came back with Carer's Assistant, Shop Assistant...anything with the word "assistant" in it.

It is badly thought out, badly designed and looks like yet another waste of taxpayers' hard earned money.

As for IDS. If I printed what I'd like to do to that man, I'm sure I'd get banned off this site :mad2:

Hi

Thanks for the link, i have read a lot of opinions on this site & have gained some useful knowledge but one thing i am still not clear about is . Do you have to sign up for the UJM , no one can give a definitive answer.. I understand we can refuse them access to our data but can`t see how you can refuse to use the UJM system. I will be telling them i can`t get on the site due to the system being overloaded etc etc & stalling them but just saying no & getting sanctioned is not even a position i can afford to take, i can & will be in dire straights if sanctions are put on me. I am yet to be convinced that it is without cost to the many who can least afford to be sanctioned.

Hmmmm.... I seem to recall that the female character in the IT Crowd, whose specialism was Human Resources, was offered a job managing the IT Help Desk.

Heh, believe me, I know my way around computers. I have noticed that some proportion of IT managers, well, don't. Seriously, though, DWP staff in general are a diverse bunch in this regard. Some are OK, some are...not so good. Just like anywhere else I've worked, really.

What I'm getting at is that if UJM fails, it won't be because the AOs and EOs can't work computers. It will be because the system has been poorly implemented. This isn't unheard of for government projects.

On the subject of the predictive search facility, when I try to input any variation of the word 'secretary', it insists on replacing it with 'secret service'. i've decided to leave it on my profile - I think it shows willing to explore other avenues, plus I quite like martini's.

Yes, it is pretty crap, however there's a workaround.

1) Bypass the search screen and go directly to this page:

https://jobsearch.direct.gov.uk/JobSearch/PowerSearch.aspx

2) Bookmark it:

3) If you start typing into the "Any job title" field, then you should receive some suggestions (a bit like in Google) and that should refine your search. For example I typed "Technical S"> "Technical Support E" > "Technical Support Engineer" and it gave me 10 relevant vacancies in my postcode.

So is the way of the world... serious web developers have migrated away from IE for some time, opting for Firefox, Safari, Opera, Flock etc

You forget Chrome, the best one (I used to be a Firefox fanboi)

I tried that link above and it gave me a job which involved driving - as I don't have a driving licence and can't drive I rejected the choice, but of course it did not allow me to pick that particular part out - I think a lot of advisers would feel you were 'restricting your options' by not having a driving licence and sanction you for that reason if they were under pressure to meet the 'sanctions target'.

I've signed up for an account and will use my IT skills to proove that this system is as good as useless. So far for my postcode SM1 it has given me jobs as far afield as Southend, Harrow and Kidderminster!

As for IDS - I always have the urge to dump a load of smelly rubbish over his shiny bald head - or fry an egg on it when he comes out with his ideals.

universal jobmatch is wrong for so many different reasons, firstly it is in breach of the data protection act and denies people the right to a private life, and scecondly it is a spiteful and unfair way of reducing the welfare bill :-x

all universal jobmatch is is a underhand tactic for jobcentres and dwp to sanction people!

That is exactly how I feel about it. It is a terrible website! And a very underhanded way of throwing people from benefits they so desperately need.

So true.

Not only does it penalise those on JSA but also those of us who are not. I used the Jobcentre Website to search for jobs within a 30 mile radius of where I live. Just put in my 3 choices, distance and all the jobs for Secretary, PA etc. came up on one or two pages.

Used it yesterday and gave up in frustration.

Also, one for people on the Work Programme to check out. My son (he was long term sick - 7 years on renal dialysis, now successfully transplanted and deemed fit to work by ATOS) is on the Work Programme. He knew nothing of this change. He thinks those on the Work Programme may be exempt from signing up to the UJM as they haven't been told anything about it at the Work Programme. He is going to double check on Monday.

Whatever, this is definitely an underhand tactic to yet again stigmatise and persecute people who can least afford it.

I wonder what the government's hidden agenda is apart from the obvious. What are they going to do when families are torn apart, people lose their homes and end up on the street? The way things are going, tens of thousands of people, often out of work through no fault of their own could end up on the streets.

Surely, there is something in the Human Rights Act that covers this? Anyone clued up on the HRA?

I've signed up to pre-empt my Work Programme provider, even though they know I have alternative skills and can use them, but need some funding.... £500 is all I need then I will sign off.

I am fed up with they way the government lumps everyone together - many people are capable of doing their own unsupervised job search and don't need to be treated like naughty little kids... this whole work programme thing seems to be set up to provide work experience for young graduates - try checking on the background of the people in your local work programme and you will see what I mean.... I bet the majority are under 30.

You dont need the Human Rights Act ..lol.... Firstly UJ is not compulsory...... and if by some miracle it was ..... You have the Data Protection Act 1998 allowing you to withhold your personal information.
