Hi,

Not sure if I am in the correct part of the forum, I have applied for a grant from an energy trust. They have written to me, that they want proof of 2 incomes i recieve, amount and frequency via a bank statement. This is not a problem, but can i delete/cross out all other transactions including the front page (my bank balance) for privacy reasons? Do i have a legal right to do this and just leave showing what they ask for, the 2 credits?

No, I dont have wage slips. But i just feel violated that they will see all my transactions etc, if they want just proof of these two credits, can i not just delete all other info on the statement and send them that?

We have done this so the only thing they can see is income. If blacking out items, do it on both sides of the sheet and it is preferable to send them copies, not originals.

Can't your employer give you a letter showing a statement of earnings, after all not everyone has a bank a/c.

I think there has be controversy over this requirement before I read elsewhere that redacted statements can be used, delete all other data than those relating to regular income.

I agree, redact any information that is not relevant. They have asked for proof that your income goes into an account - that is all you need to show them.

As one of my proof of incomes in DLA,surely they cannot use this to calculate whether I qualify or not,can they? As I assume this is means tested.

Will do, thank you for the advice.......They sent me a letter saying that the letter of proof i sent was out of date (it wasnt, was dated within the 3 months they ask for but its taken them 5 months so far to "consider" my application, now say they want up-to-date proof!!)..Anyway, what I am now wondering is, why are they asking for proof of my DLA (not a problem) if its not to be calculated into my income, if its classed as a non-means tested benfit...or am i wrong? (perhaps i am the one confused over how non-means tested is used for such applications....)

Apologies, let me simplify that.....can they use my DLA as an "income" and use it to off-set against my "outgoings" for food, gas,tv licence etc? and then say I have "X" amount left to use on electricity?

DLA should not be used in any calculation however you need to show it as "income".
