      Hello,

      On 15/1/24 booked appointment with Big Motoring World (BMW) to view a mini on 17/1/24 at 8pm at their Enfield dealership.  

      Car was dirty and test drive was two circuits of roundabout on entry to the showroom.  Was p/x my car and rushed by sales exec and a manager into buying the mini and a 3yr warranty that night, sale all wrapped up by 10pm.  They strongly advised me taking warranty out on car that age (2017) and confirmed it was honoured at over 500 UK registered garages.

      The next day, 18/1/24 noticed amber engine warning light on dashboard , immediately phoned BMW aftercare team to ask for it to be investigated asap at nearest garage to me. After 15 mins on hold was told only their 5 service centres across the UK can deal with car issues with earliest date for inspection in March ! Said I’m not happy with that given what sales team advised or driving car. Told an amber warning light only advisory so to drive with caution and call back when light goes red.

      I’m not happy to do this, drive the car or with the after care experience (a sign of further stresses to come) so want a refund and to return the car asap.

      Please can you advise what I need to do today to get this done.

      We have finally managed to obtain the transcript of this case.

      The judge's reasoning is very useful and will certainly be helpful in any other cases relating to third-party rights where the customer has contracted with the courier company by using a broker.
      This is generally speaking the problem with using PackLink who are domiciled in Spain and very conveniently out of reach of the British justice system.

      Frankly I don't think that is any accident.

      One of the points that the judge made was that the customers contract with the broker specifically refers to the courier – and it is clear that the courier knows that they are acting for a third party. There is no need to name the third party. They just have to be recognisably part of a class of person – such as a sender or a recipient of the parcel.

      Please note that a recent case against UPS failed on exactly the same issue with the judge held that the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 did not apply.

      We will be getting that transcript very soon. We will look at it and we will understand how the judge made such catastrophic mistakes. It was a very poor judgement.
      We will be recommending that people do include this adverse judgement in their bundle so that when they go to county court the judge will see both sides and see the arguments against this adverse judgement.
      Also, we will be to demonstrate to the judge that we are fair-minded and that we don't mind bringing everything to the attention of the judge even if it is against our own interests.
      This is good ethical practice.

      It would be very nice if the parcel delivery companies – including EVRi – practised this kind of thing as well.

I was just online and suddenly my laptop went dead. Thought it may be electrical but power ok. Booted up again 4 times and each time I put it on wi-fi it immediately cut out again. Before I spend money does it sound like I need a new router and if so, how much is it likely to cost.

Whole laptop just went dead. Seems like its shorting out every time I try it. Whole thing completely dies.sad.gif

Just been running glary utilities. Got to cleaning start up registry which meant it had to restart. Didn't. Restart so tried to do it manually. It does the usual chug chug for a couple of seconds then just goes pffut and dies without starting at all!

Cleaning up the registry has no connection with your router dying, they are seperate.

 

Routers do sometimes die, it doesnt have to be a specific make, just get another wireless one, you can get em new or cheap from ebay.

What worries me is if there's more wrong with it. I don't want to waste money if its had it. I can't afford a new laptop but if I try different things that don't work that money could have gone towards a new laptop.

 

Would the router dying cause the whole thing to cut out? Literally it just seems to short out and instantly goes off.

Are the lights on your router all on and all green? If so I would say it's OK as they normally flash lights or they go off if they have problems.

 

This does indeed sound like a problem with the laptop if it is actually switching off.

 

If it is switching off when you turn the wifi on, does the laptop immediately go dead or does the PC shut down? Can you run for a while whilst wifi is off?

It was immediately going off without shutting down. Lights going off and won't start at all now. Been to currys to try a new power cable and it still wouldn't work. Going to take it to work on Monday and get the lads in IT to take a look but don't hold out much hope. Thanks for all the advice. I'll let you know the verdict.

 

On a brighter note I have over £100 in tesco vouchers which they're doubling up at the moment so if worst comes to worst I might get a new one without spending too much.

info exchanged off thread too

 

sounds like it might well be the pin in the lappy power socket gone south

dry joint or whatever

no connection to moterboard anymore

 

its +4yrs old too and used on a bed with previous heat damage.

 

the battery itself is shafted too

 

the power pack is not the org one

but an argos multi voltage thing just about capablre of driving it too

[lappy needs 20v 3.25A - argos unit only gives 20v 3A at best]

 

would never start form it

always had to unplug and hope battery had enough to statr it , then plug psu in.

 

fix would be ablout £40 thru me for the pin resolder/relplacement]

 

prob the dest idea to replace the lappy

 

though it is a 64bit only running vista 32 bit

 

so if it was repaired

there would be life in it

as a second unit

Router is completely seperatre to laptop, I assume its the laptop thats powering off ?. Then the problem is with that ..what makes you assume the problem may lie with the router in the first place ?

Because at first it was powering off as soon as I turned on wi-fi, but I could restart it. Now I can't even start the lappy at all.:-(

Try a power reset.

Unplug it, take out the battery, take out all USB devices etc.., Hold the power for 20 seconds, plug in the power only (leave the battery out) and try it then.

5301 possibly socket

 

the rear pin sometimes fractures about halfway down..

 

if youve got a friend thats good with soldering sometimes you can solder a wire over the gap which ussually works for a year or so

 

alternitivly a new dc socket is around £2.15 off ebay

Just tried this 3 times and it started to boot then cut out within a few seconds.

 

I don't think it is the pin labrat as I had that problem on my old lappy so know what that's like and this one seems fine. I will get it checked out.

Seems lappy needs a new motherboard. I don't think it's worth spending £200 or so to fix so new lappy it is.

fairly sure thats the right board

 

check the serial number for the laptop it should begin SZSUxxx

 

U30, U40, U50 are the same board

U31, U41, U51 are the same boards

 

edit: if the serials worn off the base its under the battery
