hi there im new and i wondered if anyone could help

im divorced with 3 girls aged 17 19 21

yesterday i had a tax credits letter, and it said you have been selected for a random check

they are asking for me to provide evidence that my 17 and 19 year old are still in full time education asim claiming for them

i think my ex hubby could be behind this sudden interest

we dont get on, and he hasnt uttered a world to me for 6 years he doesnt see them although i think they chat to him on the phone

my youngest told me he had a pay rise, so i emailed the csa and told them as im struggling to manage the csa dealing with my case is in belfast

strangely the tax creidts letter came from belfast too!

im in england and previuso dealing with tax credits has never been belfast

anyway

they said i have to provide letters from school and college that shows there attendance for at least 3 months

i have one from the school but it just shows this term untilnext year and they stamped it with school logo

im awaiting the college one in the post

i have 3 weeks to send it or money stops and i l have to pay back all ive had

they also said they want a ref number and phone number

i havent got a phone no more and i dont have a ref number either

letter said if they believe the letters not to be genuine, they will keep them and may ring up the school to check

whats all this about? im worried now does this mean im been investigated?

has anyone else had a letter like this?

advice please

Hi Angela, this is nothing to worry about. I've seen a few of these over the last 4 weeks.

Can you confirm your daughters are in non advanced education for more than 12 hours per week.?

The wording on the letter is standard.

The telephone and ref numbers are for the college .

I have found it easier to go to the college and show the letter where they will print off everything you need. They are used to receiving these requests.

hi

yes there still in education

so i havent been picked out deliberately beacause of my ex? is it just a coincidence that both thr csa and tax credits letters both came from belfast on sam day, different enevelopes?

letter states if they think letters genuine they l send them back when theyve made a decision

what does that mean?

will they ring the school ? letter said they d only keep letters and ring school if they thing letters not genuine

the school letter has school stamp on it!

im still awaiting college letter i rang them 3 times i hope that comes monday or i l have to go down there in person

so have you seen these letters before? and there not just targeting me because of someothing bittert ex may or may not have said?

sorry im just worried when i get a letter like this

letter does have school ref and phone number on

school letter shows everything, theres no need for them to ring them

its like the suspect me which is not fair as im innocent

i wont be getting tax credits much longer anyway becuase of their ages

i def couldnt afford to pay it back over some admin error

hi

yes there still in education - is that over 12 hours per week each? I ask because that is important

so i havent been picked out deliberately beacause of my ex? is it just a coincidence that both thr csa and tax credits letters both came from belfast on sam day, different enevelopes? Belfast is where all the other letters I have seen have come from, it is their compliance centre.

letter states if they think letters genuine they l send them back when theyve made a decision

what does that mean?

All it means is that the letters will be posted back to you. If you provide letters that are not genuinely from the college they will keep them. Nothing to worry about as you will be sending letters written by the college.

will they ring the school ? They might if they want to clarify something on the letter. Again nothing to worry about. letter said they d only keep letters and ring school if they thing letters not genuine which is probably the case.

the school letter has school stamp on it!

im still awaiting college letter i rang them 3 times i hope that comes monday or i l have to go down there in person

so have you seen these letters before? Yes and there not just targeting me because of someothing bittert ex may or may not have said? What could he have said? IF your kids are in non advanced education for 12 or more hours (excluding breaks/dinners) then im not sure what he could say.

sorry im just worried when i get a letter like this - most people are.

letter does have school ref and phone number on, thats all they asked for.

school letter shows everything, theres no need for them to ring them.

its like the suspect me which is not fair as im innocent. Its just a check.

i wont be getting tax credits much longer anyway becuase of their ages

i def couldnt afford to pay it back over some admin error They are entitled to stay in education until they are 19.

So just to confirm, are both in full time non advanced education for more than 12 hours per week each excluding breaks, dinner?

yes they are

the reason i thought my ex was behind it is he is bitter towards me and always rings the csa saying he s paying to much money and as i emial the csa saying he had a pay rise i thought he may have said any old rubbish to spite me

ive just heard from youngest daughter that her dad text her and has reported me yet again to the csa and prob tax creidts too

he has appealed the decision what does that mean?

he told them that my middle daughter aged 19 sat at home all last year and did not go to college

she did

does he need to find proof of his allegations before they take him serioulsy?

is that why i suddenly got a letter from csa and tax creidts?

csa letter said they have looked at my case again and following a chnage in cirdumstances this is what i will get

the funny thing is im getting at extra £8 a month not less lol so maybe i got that letter because i emailed them about his pay rise?

can he cause me any real trouble?

i have the proof here from school and college they were/are still in school/college last/this year

yet he conyinues to report me

what will he have said in the appeal and what would happen?

does anyone know?

and do nrp ever win?

He can appeal the decision but as your CSA award is salary based I don't think he will get very far unless he suddenly gives up his job.

They might decide to investigate this but you can prove your 19 year old was at school so I wouldn't worry about it. He is clutching at straws

£8 a month more is nothing certainly not worth appealling against anyway it all ends in july , so i dont undertsand why is so relentless in pursuing this

so do the csa always go with the mother? after all he and his new wife both have 2 wages coming in and according to my daughter they cannot manage on the 58 k a year they get!

i have nothing! i struggle yet he contiues to complain to csa! daughter did say he said he was annoyed as they have done nothing!

i thought an appeal was where he takes me /csa to a magistrates court so is it not that drastic?

he sme thinkiing im going to get summons to the court over an £8 increase

Its all hot air. Don't worry.

If he does appeal the £8 increase then let him. All csa will do is recheck the figures and confirm it is correct.

There really is nothing he can do whilst the kids are in non advanced full time education. He just needs to get over it.

You will be getting no summons..

Well thats technically untrue. He can appeal - if he chooses to do so the CSA will recheck the figures and more then likely send him an invitation to withdraw his appeal as the figures will show as being correct. He can then choose whether or not to withdraw the appeal or take the case to a tribunal, the CSA cannot stop him from doing so. However I think its highly unlikely he will do so over an £8 increase, it would be a massive waste of time

i think maybe his new wife is behind this he rarley sees the kids but when he has its only been the youngest and she says his new wife is bossy a drunk and controlling and told him to give his kids just a tenna for xmas

surely if he still disagrees with the csa he wont be daft enough to take it further? wont he incur costs if he did?

so this appeal is just done internally within the csa and not a court?

all my tax credist and csa will end in july i dont know what his prob is

he is also trying to claim back from csa the money i got last year for the 19 year old

i still got it as she stayed on at college and got cb as they pay that up to aged 20

I don't think they take his partners earnings into account. My ex CSA is based on his income, even though his partner he's lived with 7 years works full time too. His payments haven't changed in the last 9 years. Would be nice if it still cost the same to bring kids up now as it did then.

No,,,the CSA does not always go with the mother,,My Oh's ex was on a tasty amount from us on a voluntary arrangement,,decided to have a tantrum and stopped us seeing daughter,,OH took her to court,,won access and asked that the CSA sort finances out cos she was always threatening him with it anyway.

CSA payments are nowhere near what she used to get, serves her right too Kids shouldn't be used as weapons..and she shouldn't have made so many threats. We have an account that we put money in every month so daughter has a bit of cash when she's older.

ive never stopped him seeing them

he just doesnt bother says he cant afford the petrol

i guess all i can do is post the info they asked for and wait

anyway its the tax credits thats asked for evidence not the csa

do the csa and tax credits and child ben shate info?

csa just sent me a letter saying this is what your getting based on x net income thats all

its just both letters came on same day and from belfast but in diff envelopes

one dated 12 oct other 16th

I think it's a coincidence that both letters were issued at roughly the same time.

You have all the evidence to prove your claims are legitimate,,I'd stop worrying,,if he wants to play silly beggars,,let him,as long as you get your money, let him stew.
