Important Changes To Jobseeker's Allowance Sanctions, From 22/10/2012

Different levels of the sanctions are for different offences so to speak, failing to attend an interview or signing will attract a 4 week sanction the first time and then any subsequent fail to atetnd will be 13 weeks. If you fail to show that you have met the conditions of entitlememt by not beig actively seeking or availble to take work then you will be referred for a disallowance for 2 weeks then complete the appropriate forms to keep you claim running and then referred for a 2 weeks sanction immediately following the disallowance and then the higher sanction is if you fail/refuse to apply for a job, leave voluntarirly or are sacked for misconduct etc and again that one escalates each time you encounter the problem, 13 weeks 26 weeks and 106 weeks.

Yes the Govt has brought in more hurdles - but forewarned is forearmed (I hope that's that the right phrase)

 

There seem to be some loopholes already:

 

e.g - you forgot to attend an adviser appointment without good reason - 1st penalty = 4 weeks suspension

HOWEVER if you don't contact JCP within 5 working days they close your claim..Re-Open it on 6th working day via a rapid reclaim and you lose just 1 weeks JSA instead of 4 weeks- PLUS the 4 weeks loss would have an escalating affect on any subsequent "transgression" - So if you think you have a good excuse - Granny died / boiler blew up - you might want to risk explaining yourself, but if you have no excuse -" forgot" is not an excuse - perhaps bite the bullet and lose 1 weeks money.

 

If you have a sanction on JSA and the stress makes you ill, you could apply for ESA - and would not have a sanction.

 

Or you are sanctioned on ESA, and want to take your chances on JSA, you could make a claim for JSA without sanction.

Don't forget the sanctions on ESA increase from 3rd December.

 

The problem is if you forgot about the appointment and then made contact within the 5 working days without realising, you will have made contact and will find the referral could be made automatically.

I forsee a large increase in rapid reclaims and abuse

What ESA sanctions? Or is this mostly related to not taking part in the work programme?

As far as i can see its bringing the esa sanctions penalties in line with jsa sanctions in readiness for the universal credit next year. Apparantly claiments will be notified by post from around the 12th November. (this information is gathered from search engine on the net.)

ESA sanctions will be opem ended sanctions until the customer complies by attending the interview that was missed,

failing to attend or participate any adviser interview, (New Claim Work Focused Interview, Flexible Interventions, Work Programme Referral Interviews or failure to take part in any Work Related Activity.

The sanctions for ESA will involve removal of the personal allowance,

1st failure is 1 week sanction, 2nd failure within a 52 week period is 2 weeks and third or subsequent failure in 52 weeks is 4 weeks.

yeah you would think so wouldnt you? however it has now been suggested that pensioners should perform some sort of work in order to get their pension and if they refuse to have some of their money stopped.....unbelievable!!!

Fairly sure that will never happen - pensioners are a group of people who are a) increasing in number and b) more likely to vote than any other demographic. I saw that article this morning and was astonished that anyone would have the brass neck to say something like this out loud.

i wouldnt be too sure, when did we ever think that a uk govt would literally abandon support for the sick ill and disabled in this country?

when did we ever think that people would have their money stopped for a max period of 3 years? HB capped and cut, CT benefit cut, NHS being slowly demolished and sold off? need i go on?

It's all alright now, the ressession is over (BBC news this am). The gov will now be able to start honouring those who have paid their insurance (NI) against being sick, disabled, or unemployed. We'll soon return to full employment, homes for all and proper support for the sick and disabled.

 

All the cuts have been worth it. We were all in it together and now the troubled times are over we can all profit from the boom.

Why not just kill the elderly (as long as they are poor)? It would save money and we could give Atos or G4s the contract to incinerate their bodies.

no i dont think that incineration is going to be the answer surely they could be boiled down to make soap out of? this would maximise the profit margin, thus making much more business sense!!

No, don't you understand? Rich people help to stimulate the economy, regardless of age. Poor people have few uses and are so stupid/lazy/scrounging, that they are a drain on the economy. Rich people and corporations pay all their taxes and invest in new enterprises and create lots of jobs for the 'worthwhile poor' - you know the ones, too stupid to have a business of their own, but useful to work for low wages in these new jobs.

 

New jobs = mythical creature, the existence of which is yet to be proven.

Notice how all news comments sites are moderated, call a radio show and they pick and choose who goes on air, want to be on question time? unlikely unless they give you the question to ask.
