    • Hey guys,   I was using a utility supplier for 18 months. Every month, paid my direct debit on time. One day, they reviewed my account and said they had miscalculated my energy consumption and I now owe them £900.    I switched energy suppliers straight away as a consequence.    I am now being contacted by UK Search Limited by phone, email and text message. So far, I haven't responded and don't intend to.   I've checked my credit file. The account with the original utility supplier is closed and settled according to Credit Karma.    So what should I do with UK Search Limited? As far as I see it:   Completely ignore them until they go away (my preferred option) Contact them in some way and dispute the debt   I would be very grateful for any advice on how to proceed. I currently have an excellent credit score.    Thank you,

I purchased a Dell Inspiron laptop from Currys/PcWorld on the 12th October 2011.

I found myself with a faulty hard-drive and faulty screen at the beginning of August and so returned the laptop for repair,

under the 12 month manufacturer's warranty, on the 13th August 2012.

Currys/PcWorld relayed the machine to Dell in order for repair work to be carried out

but after a number of weeks had still not been returned due to "waiting on a part".

I was told that if the laptop was not returned within 28 days (10th September 2012),

I would be entitled to a credit refund of the value of the laptop (£461.29) which had to be spent in-store

and could not even be spent at Currys/PcWorld's online store.

Is there any possibility that I can demand a monetary refund,

as I would like to purchase a second-hand Apple Macbook Pro?

Or perhaps use the credit as a deduction from the price of another laptop, where the difference could be paid on finance?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If they are offering you the original value of the laptop then they are offering you more than you would be entitled to under SOGA. SOGA would want to take into account the benefit you have had from the laptop and adjust the refund accordingly. On that basis, Currys are treating you quite well.

If you wanted a monetary refund then you would have to argue tfor the adjusted value which would be a lot less.

So it seems that Currys aren't doing too badly - but a bit over-bureaucratic not allowing you to use the credit for an online purchase.

The same money will inevitably get you a better spec laptop in today's market. A good offer, despite the horrendous service. To replace and reimage a hard drive should be half an hour's work.

whens the last time you re-imaged a hdd

all manufacturers take time, for example a sony remaster can be upto 9 dvds and takes hours...

I reimaged a hdd last month. Took 15mins using Symantec Ghost to restore a .gho image file - full Windows 7 Pro.Drive took 5 mins to install.

I would not expect PC World Techs to be restoring using DVDs - they would almost certainly have a networked based store of all image files for all models sold.
