Firstly im REALLY sorry if this is posted in the wrong thread. Mods feel free to move it where necessary.

This is on behalf of a family member. She is renting from a housing association and has been in the property for over 20 years.

To cut a very very long story short, she is having problems with her rear patio door leaking. She reported this over 12 weeks ago and after failed repair attempts, bungled appointments, property damage and a letter before action being sent, nothing has been done.

She sent a letter to the CEO last week giving seven days to get this issue resolved properly otherwise she would get her OWN builders in to do the job and sue the housing authority for the bill as well as damage to carpets for the leak.

They have acknowledged receipt of her letter, called this morning to arrange a repair for TODAY. Then called back, cancelled and have arranged another appointment for NEXT friday.

She feels this is unacceptable and just wants to know what her rights would be? Could she get her own builders in and sue? Can she sue for the damage to the carpets from the leak?

The thing is shes really not in a position to pay out a lot of money for builders if shes not likely to get it back.

Any advice would be great. Remember this is now 13 weeks since first reported.

UKD.
