Hi there folks

My past has caught up with me, my ex 3 years ago signed my name up for a 5 Catalogue's for clothes etc and she said it was in her name, I only found out when the mail started coming through

I am now at the point of pulling my hair out trying to avoid this debt and Lowell are now contacting everywhere I have previously lived at to find me....they just aren't giving up!!

Is there anyway I can send them a letter to explain that my intentions are to pay the debt at a monthly rate but would they consider reducing the amount. I realise these companies only reduce the amount if I were to pay this off in one go...but has anyone had any experience of getting a reduced rate and being able to pay the debt off? :|:|

I suppose it was my own fault in agreeing to my ex and keeping the account the way it was....but then I didn't know what the future would bring :(

Can't keep ignoring this I suppose, we also live in a house where my other half works with the owners partner....if we move out and the letters keep coming, this would certainly put her in a bad situation

Any help would be great thanks

Aye, it was just a thought, there's bound to be stacks of charges on the accounts, do you know the score regarding charges they have applied ?

No info on anything like that, the file hasn't gave me anything buddy

That latest one says

Current Balance £685

but also on the right it says

Default / Delinquent Balance £370

What does that mean? Am I due the £685 or £370 ??

It'll be the £685 they are hoping to squeeze out of you !!! Is it just the one account or more than one with the same group ?

More than one with the same account

Something tells me just to wing it till 2015 then they will be statue barred, but I'm always thinking the door might go during the day

Or I start paying off the accounts which was my original query, would Lowell etc reduce the amount if an agreed payment was made every month

They probably wouldn't accept it but then if they don't, I've just opened the can of worms

I have looked on the Equifax report but could there also be any oustanding debts on another Credit report?

If I payed for Experian would they just have the same results or might they have different ones?

Or any other Credit report companies, do they all share the same info etc

Different people report to different agencies so what appears with one may not appear with another. It is not too late for you to report to the police as fraudulent and let these guys knows whos debts they actually are. I assume she did this without your knowledge? You cannot have signed anything. Do you know how the account was originally set up? You could also contact the catelogue concerned to advise this is not your account or your debt.

Your credit standing will not improve until you

have paid all the debts off and all entries are

removed from your credit files, the task then

is to build a credit ''reputation'' steadily and

it does take time most lenders these days are

looking for longer and longer good + credit

history so don't be fooled by the ''credit score''

which is intended to be a ''day to day'' indication

of how you may be viewed by a potential lender,

it plays a quite small part in any decision making.

  • 3 months later...

Hi guys,

I have been given money by my folks to pay my debts off, namely Lowell etc

They have already sent mailings offering payment schedules and also a final installments figure which equated to 15% discount

Is there any way when I call them I can get that final full payment lower than the offered 15% or would Lowells etc not budge?

Hi do not call them any offer from them must be in writing and must say they will not sell the remainder on to another DCA. Do not believe a word they say on the phone all they want is a payment they don't care how or from who.
