I am looking for advice, I am going toMalta at the end of august for 3 weeks,

my question is this, with Greece just aboutto fall out of the euro what is the best way to take spending money?

We do not use credit cards/debit cards whenoverseas, so do we take travellers checks in euro’s/or euro’s/or sterlingtravellers checks, or just sterling.

Idon’t know if I am on the right part of the forum to put this as a thread.

Malta is in the eurozone, and despite what you might've heard about Greece and its protracted debt problems, the euro isn't about to disappear and certainly not within a month.

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com has a good article on travel money. Actually credit or debit cards are the most secure way of spending overseas, and depending on your issuer's charges, you might even get a better rate than cash.

Nobody uses travellers' cheques in Europe any more and you might even have difficulty if you try.

If you don't want to take wads of cash euros with you then you could get a pre-paid card. These work like a debit card and are denominated in euros, so you use them to withdraw cash from ATMs or in shops/restaurants. The advantage is that you can only spend what you put on it.

An interesting article and it does indeed seem likely that Greece will exit the Euro, but there's nothing to suggest that anyone else will, including Malta. It's a currency system shared between several countries, many of them very solid.

This is a good idea and you have the same protection as you would if it were a regular credit card :)
