hi there,

I was expected to work as an event security officer today at covent garden london with showsec event security. I got there on time and then the manager has given us the yellow shirts to put on but all those shirts were extra extra large and i usually wear small size so i asked the manger in a polite way that do u have other sizes in it and then he replied in really harsh and insulting way that "thats all i got if you want to wear then go ahead or otherwise go home" and i was kind of shocked at that moment that i didnt say anything wrong then why he treted me like this then i noticed he was really calm and cool while treating other Britishers so i realize that he is kind of a racist (according to my observation) to cut short i have asked his name and he refused to after that i went to have a word with the lady from showsec ltd to complain about himself and to know about that either they have other sizes or not the lady also mis guided me that they dont have any other size as i have later found the had every size but they dont want to give us the small size as i dont know why when i asked the same lady that how to complain about this whole matter she given me her email addres and tell me to e-mail the whole thing to her as she will pass that complain to others which doesnt make any sense

(infect at the end off whole conversation i weared the xxl shirt eventhough i knw i was looking like joker, but that the same guy told me to leave the site)

so i want to know that is there any possible way to deal with that racist guy.

Do you have a witness that will confirm your version of events?

Without one - no, little you can do.

Never assume anyone on the internet is who they say they are. Only rely on advice from insured professionals you have paid for!

Just write to the company stating that you dont feel you were treated in a correct manner, and then forget it, there really isnt a lot you can do unless you have witnesses and to be fair if you want to work for this company again theres not a lot of point in making waves. Having said that you do seem to have a few problems with the companies you work for prehaps its time to look at a different line of work.

DSo you have an SIA badge? if you do there should be plenty of work around especially in London.

Delicate situation. You like your job? The money's good? The benefits are terrific?

You could try talking to him in private as a first step, to let him know your true feelings about his lack of maturity and professionalism. He may not be aware of the damage they are doing because they have perhaps been brought up to see this treatment. You are there to earn your living nothing else.

If this does not produce visible results, then you will have to take your complaints to someone higher up. You will need to keep a note of specific comments and dates to be persuasive. Forgiveness only goes so far.

Me neither. This is a world away from being racist - or at least in having sufficient proof to allege any kind of discriminatory behaviour.

Any advice given is done so on the assumption that recipients will also take professional advice where appropriate.

I'm guessing that from your post you are new to the world of event security after reading this i'm a little bemused and struggling to work out how this SM is a racist!.... Reading the post it sounds to me like you may have a misguided expectation to the job.

I've worked in event security to manager level for many years i've seen it and heard it all!... Including what you are saying, to be honest from what you are saying was alledged to have been said i have said to many many people. "don't like it? Then go home!" It is the quick and easiest way of saying "i dont have time for a member of my team who wants to complain!" Speaking from experience being a SM you have flack from 3 sides organisers, security management and the public 3 times that of the security staff but it don't make me a rascist in any form.

i personally don't believe the SM refused to give you his name however i wasn't there i don't know but i would imagine that a company the size of Showsec have a complaints/ grievence proceedure to follow and that would be the route to take so the lady giving you her email is the correct way by the sounds of it.

If you worked in my club with me a conversation i would be having with you would be something along the lines of if you think being told To go home is harsh then wait til Joe public gets hold of you its no holds barred and they certainly won't give a monkeys about your feelings when they insult, spit, throw drinks or try to assault you. Theres no airs and graces if you don't like it then this isnt the job for you.

I make no apologies for this post i'm speaking from experience i certainly ain't defending the manager and i've never worked for Showsec but i will say this if your a newbie to event security Its the business i'm afraid welcome to the harsh world of event security it won't get any easier.

Got to agree with ravinwayne, if you are easily offended by words dont work in the security industry, you will be dealing with joe public when thety are at their worst most of the time.

Maybe they have run out of other sizes at the time and only the biggest ones were left? Have you thought about that? How can you prove they had smaller sizes at hand, new, ready to be given away?

He may be racist, may be - not [EDIT].

My advice is: keep an eye and a diary on him - what, when and what time he says or does something and who has witnessed that.

He shouldn't have spoken to you like that, that's for sure.

Quite likely he might not even work with him again bearing in mind it is showsec and the different events they do and how big they are
