Hi

I recently applied for a taxi badge licence , I passed the medical and the theory , but when it came to sending over my badge I received a letter starting I need to go to a tribunal and explain my criminal record and driving fines and penalties. At the tribunal I explained about my speeding fine an SP30 and an IN10 which came up to 9 points and my criminal convictions one of which I was 17 , I am now 28! They sent me out of the room and only took 3 mins to decide I shouldn't have the license and that I was an unfit and untrustworthy candidate to hold the licence of which I feel cheated .

I know at least 3 taxi drivers with worse on their criminal record that have been granted licensed. I paid over £250 and wish to appeal. I have already been provisionally approved for a job at my local firm. I can't afford solicitors. Can someone help me , I need advise. I only have 21 days to appeal.

probaly the criminal convictions.

many councils dont even allow drivers to have ANY points or ANYTHING on their enhanced CRB

if anything shows they revoke the licence.

what was the conviction? theft or any form of violence and your chances are very low.

Never assume anyone on the internet is who they say they are. Only rely on advice from insured professionals you have paid for!

I agree with emmzzi. You also imply you have several convictions, and only one was from 17. Without knowing the full picture, it's difficult to help you.

I only have the one caution when I was 17.

Your statement above implies that you have more than one conviction !!

There is no obligation on the licensing committee to issue a PH or HC licence where there are convictions of any sort, they have a duty of care to the public and therefore have to be very careful, however you may find a neighboring authority slightly more willing to issue a badge as the criteria varies from LA to LA. A HC badege will be nore difficult to obtain than a PH one. You will however have to appear before a licensing committee and they will decide on your case.

If you have 9 points on your licence and one of those is for no insurance and criminal convictions within the last 10 years I would say based on experience that you have no chance of a taxi Badge and i would seriously suggest that you look at alternative work.
