Damon Hill objects to raising motorway speed limit to 80mph

Not the old - 'ullo, I haven't been in the papers since I won some car race 50 years ago, now i'm over the hill but I think I will say something controversial and get me in the papers again.

 

All I have to say is 'who the hell is Damon Hill!' - just crawl back into the hole you came out from.

What he actually means is :

Most people aren't safe to drive over 55 (mph)

Confirmed by the fact that as reported elsewhere he went on to say something like "I'm a big fan of the American speed limit" (55 in many states).

 

But seriously, why would anyone give a toss what he thinks? He was a reasonably good racing driver, but that doesn't make him an expert on road safety. And yes I'd say the same if he said the limit should ba raised to 100.
