I am the main named claiment for both myself and my wife.

We live, just us two, in a council house ,my wife does not work.

I recieve incapbenefit topped up with income support .We have housing and council tax

benefits paid in full.

I have just recently been awarded DLA at LRM and MRC.

The question is - should my wife claim carers allowance or not ?

The reason for question is - We dont want to claim if it would cause us to lose income

support with its passport to HB, CT, free scipts etc.

Any advise would be greatfully Appreciate

Your wife SHOULD claim Carers Allowance straight away.

It will be taken into account against your Income Support but you will receive an extra premium called the Carers Premium

so you will be over £32 per week better off in the end.

Also you will be going over to ESA shortly and if for any reasons you fail your medical your wife can claim I.S in her name for you both, her condition of entitlement

her Carers Allowance.

and she will be credited with a stamp

No matter how much IS you receive, you're entitled to full HB, CT, help with health costs, etc.
